May 14, 2008—May 17, 2008. Almaty to host 15th healthcare exhibition KIHE - 2008
The 15th Kazakhstan's international healthcare exhibition KIHE - 2008 will take place in Almaty on May 14-17. The event is being organized by Iteca exhibition company and officially supported by Kazakhstan's Healthcare Ministry, the Almaty Akimat (municipality), Kazakh National Medical S. Asfendiyarov University and Medtechnika Joint Stock Company. KIHE - 2008 is the largest international healthcare exhibition in the region. The previous year 192 companies from 23 countries took part in the exhibition.

May 2, 2008—May 15, 2008. UNDP, Women’s Committee announce contest for young journalists
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Uzbekistan and Women’s Committee announced a competition for young journalists (under age of 30) for the best coverage of issues on elimination of discrimination against women. The contest will be held within the project “Legislative and Institutional Capacity Development for Women’s Empowerment in Uzbekistan”, which directed to support and build the capacity of the government, civil society and mass media in reducing the gender gaps via raising awareness of and implementing the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to Uzbekistan. The contest aimed to motivate journalists of Uzbekistan to cover gender-related issues to raise gender awareness and knowledge of UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), as well as eliminate gender stereotypes in the community. Representatives of print-media, TV and radio stations and Internet outlets can participate in the event. Deadline for submission of applications and materials is 15 June 2008. Applications can be submitted via email to cedaw.undp@gmail.com or delivered to UNDP Uzbekistan office at 4, Shevchenko, Tashkent, 100029, Uzbekistan. January 30, 2008—December 31, 2008. Competition on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems announced in Kulob
The Kulob mayor’s office has announced a competition among local journalists on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems facing the city and the district of Kulob. Journalists of all local publications irrespective of forms of property are invited to participate in the competition, which is dedicated to the 1,150 anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki and the Tajik Language Year that will be marked this year. The winners of the competition will be given prizes in money: 1st place – 1,000 somonis; 2nd place – 500 somonis; and 3rd place – 300 somonis. The award ceremony for the winners will be held at the first press conference of the Kulob mayor in 2009.

June 1, 2007—June 1, 2008. Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan announces "Best journalist of the year" contest
Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan invites the public correspondents to take part in the "Best journalist of the year" contest. The stories published in the newspapers and magazines, websites, as well as those aired through television and radio from June 2007 to June 2008 will be accepted for consideration. The materials on the recommendations will be presented through the branch offices of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, provinces and the city of Tashkent. The journalists are kindly requested to send along with their works the data on the place of their employment, telephone numbers, address and copy of their passports. The diplomas and valuable prizes to the winners of the contest will be handed over at the festive ceremony on the Mass Media Day in Uzbekistan on 27 June 2008.
