May 20, 2008. Kyrgyz Prime Minister tours Poland, Latvia, Belarus
The Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov will pay official visit to Poland, Latvia and Belarus on May 20-22, 2008. The visit pursues strengthening of bilateral economic and cultural cooperation. Poland will be the first country to be visited by the Kyrgyz delegation on the three-day itinerary. The plans of Igor Chudinov stand for meeting with executives of the state, participation in the Business Forum and visiting Trade Exchange, Seym and Senate. Later Igor Chudinov will hold negotiations with the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

May 20, 2008. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov goes on official visit to Baku
On May 19, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov goes on an official visit for Baku at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. During the high-level meeting, the two presidents will discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation as well as a number of urgent problems in interstate relations, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting official information. It is expected that on results of the Turkmen president's two-day visit to Baku the sides will sign a package of documents designed to take Turkmen-Azerbaijani partnership to a qualitatively new level.

May 20, 2008. UNDP DRR attends opening ceremony of "BestSoft - Uzbekistan-2008"
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Ms. Kyoko Postill participated in the opening ceremony of the National Software Exhibition "BestSoft - Uzbekistan-2008" on 15 May. "BestSoft - Uzbekistan-2008" was organized by IT Association of Uzbekistan and from the Government side was endorsed by Communication and Information Agency of Uzbekistan. Official partner of events was "ICT Policy" (ICTP) Project of United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan. The exhibition was the significant event familiarizing the wide audience as well as professionals in the field of information technology with the practice of creating and implementing projects in the field of software development in the country.

May 20, 2008. Healthy lifestyle issues to be taken into account in ministries' strategic plans: PM
"Healthy life issues are very important. Nation's health for 50 per cent depends on healthy lifestyle and only for 10 per cent - on medicine and following factors," Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Karim Massimov has said at the Kazakh Government's session today. He positively estimated proposals of the healthcare, tourism and sport ministries on healthy lifestyle's formation. "I urge the Economy Ministry to take into account all the discussed issues like principal figures in strategic plans. This will be reflected in financing finally," K. Massimov said. Prime Minister reminded of the Kazakh President's task on creation of a culture and sport TV channel. "This issue will be considered separately at one of the Government's sessions," Mr. Massimov noted.

May 20, 2008. Tajik president, Japanese envoy discuss cooperation issues
State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan were discussed yesterday at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Japanese Ambassador to Tajikistan Tsutomu Hiraoka. According to presidential press service, President Rahmon noted that Japan is important and reliable partner of Tajikistan within the Asian continent and highly appraised the results of his visit to this country that was held last December. The president noted that a grant agreement on the project for rehabilitation of the Qurghon Teppa - Dusti road is one of results of that visit, the press service said.

January 30, 2008—December 31, 2008. Competition on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems announced in Kulob
The Kulob mayor’s office has announced a competition among local journalists on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems facing the city and the district of Kulob. Journalists of all local publications irrespective of forms of property are invited to participate in the competition, which is dedicated to the 1,150 anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki and the Tajik Language Year that will be marked this year. The winners of the competition will be given prizes in money: 1st place – 1,000 somonis; 2nd place – 500 somonis; and 3rd place – 300 somonis. The award ceremony for the winners will be held at the first press conference of the Kulob mayor in 2009.

Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan invites the public correspondents to take part in the "Best journalist of the year" contest. The stories published in the newspapers and magazines, websites, as well as those aired through television and radio from June 2007 to June 2008 will be accepted for consideration. The materials on the recommendations will be presented through the branch offices of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, provinces and the city of Tashkent.
