May 21, 2008. Turkmen president meets Azerbaijani prime minister
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasi Zade on May 20, the second day of his official visit to Baku. During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation, prospects for further developing this cooperation in the light of agreements reached on results of the high level talks. The sides noted that there exist a lot of opportunities for cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, a flagship sector of both economies, as well as in the transport and communication spheres and a range of other spheres.

May 21, 2008. Clean Development Mechanism Project of UNDP Presents Book on Determining Prices for Carbon Credits
On May 14th, joint UNDP and Ministry of Economy project "Capacity Building for Clean Development Mechanism in Uzbekistan" presented the book "Equal Exchange: Determining a Fair Price for Carbon" in the Turquoise Hall of the Radisson SAS Tashkent hotel. The book was translated into Russian and published on the initiative of the Ministry of Economy - the Designated National Authority on CDM in Uzbekistan. The book was a compilation of articles reflecting the viewpoints of lawyers, financiers, green investors, CDM project developers, traders and market analysts on the issues of pricing, selling, purchasing and other operations with carbon credits.

May 21, 2008. Kazakhstan Development Bank's new projects
Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC announced financing 10 investment projects including 3 "breakthrough" ones at its session last Thursday. These are organization of textile production in "Ontustik" free economic zone in South Kazakhstan oblast, modernization of a plant on production of ferroalloys in Taraz and further expansion of "Aktau" International Sea Trade Port, learnt from the Bank's press service. Besides, projects on construction of the following objects were approved: a cement plant in Almaty oblast; first works on utilization of worn-out transport tires in Astana; first transport-logistics centre in Aktobe, West Kazakhstan; modernization of a Heat Power Station in Ridder in East Kazakhstan and projects providing re-financing of loans in Kazakhstan's commercial banks.

May 21, 2008. Seminar to train Muslim community leaders on HIV/AIDS campaign going on in Dushanbe
The First Regional Basic Training Seminar to train trainers from among Muslim community leaders on HIV/AIDS campaign is going on in Dushanbe, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). This tree-day seminar that was launched in Dushanbe on May 20 is part of the Central Asia AIDS Control Project. The source at a MoH said that the seminar participants are discussing issues related to HIV epidemic problems, models of response to HIV epidemic in other Islamic states, and implementation of Islamic guidelines on HIV/AIDS. The well-trained Muslim leaders will then participate in HIV/AIDS campaign in their communities.

May 21, 2008. Kyrgyzstan intends to expand cooperation with Malaysia
Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Malaysia Jeenbek Kulubaev handed over credentials to King of Malaysia Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terrengganu, the foreign ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported. At Istana Negara (Royal Palace), where minister of foreign affairs of Malaysia Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim attended the ceremony of handing over credentials, ambassador J.Kulubaev expressed Kyrgyzstan's aspiration for development of cooperation with Malaysia and supporting active political dialog. Conveying greetings of Kyrgyz President K.Bakiyev to the Malaysian King, J.Kulubaev underlined Kyrgyzstan's interests in opening a new page in bilateral Kyrgyz-Malaysian relations.

January 30, 2008—December 31, 2008. Competition on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems announced in Kulob
The Kulob mayor’s office has announced a competition among local journalists on the best coverage of socioeconomic problems facing the city and the district of Kulob. Journalists of all local publications irrespective of forms of property are invited to participate in the competition, which is dedicated to the 1,150 anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki and the Tajik Language Year that will be marked this year. The winners of the competition will be given prizes in money: 1st place – 1,000 somonis; 2nd place – 500 somonis; and 3rd place – 300 somonis. The award ceremony for the winners will be held at the first press conference of the Kulob mayor in 2009.

Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan invites the public correspondents to take part in the "Best journalist of the year" contest. The stories published in the newspapers and magazines, websites, as well as those aired through television and radio from June 2007 to June 2008 will be accepted for consideration. The materials on the recommendations will be presented through the branch offices of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, provinces and the city of Tashkent. The journalists are kindly requested to send along with their works the data on the place of their employment, telephone numbers, address and copy of their passports.
