December 19, 2005. Turkmenistan foreign trade turnover up 17,3% in 10 months of 2005
Foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan exceeded US $ 6,870,8 bln in January-October 2005, up 17,3% year-on-year. Trade surplus rose 2,1 times to US $ 1,190,8 bln year-on-year. Trade turnover with non CIS countries made up US $ 4,096,9 bln, a 15,1% increase year-on-year. At the same time, exports grew 19% and imports 10,9%. As a result, trade surplus with these countries stood at US $ 281,9 mln. Thus, non CIS countries were leading partners both in Turkmenistan’s exports (54,3%) and imports (67,2%). Foreign trade turnover with CIS countries increased 20,7% to US $ 2,773,9 mln in 10 months year-on-year. Exports to CIS countries rose 34,4% against slight growth in imports from these countries totaling 0,5%. Trade surplus with CIS countries totaled US $ 908,9 mln. In the reported period exports grew 25,6% to US $ 4,030,8 bln. Turkmenistan exported to 52 countries. Exports to Ukraine, Iran, Italy, Russia and Azerbaijan increased as compared to the same period of last year. The natural gas share in Turkmenistan’s total exports was the largest one (45,1%), of which 74,9% were exported to Ukraine, 10% to Iran and 7.2% to Russia. Turkmenistan’s imports accounted for US $ 2,840 bln in 10 months of this year, up 7,2% on 2004. Turkmenistan imported from 82 countries. At the same time, imports from the U.S grew 2,2 times, from the UAE – 5,6%, Ukraine – 8,2%, France – 1,6 times and China – 1,9 times.
