January 6, 2006. Kazakhstan intends to import 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas from Uzbekistan this year at the rate of $55 per 1000 cubic meters
In 2006, Kazakhstan will purchase 1.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas at the rate of US$55 per 1,000 cubic meters. The agreement was reached during the negotiations in Tashkent on December 29. Kazakhstan was represented in the negotiations by top managers of the state companies for management of gas-transport sector, and Uzbekistan was represented by Prime Minister Utkir Sultanov and heads of “Uzbekneftegaz” and “Uztransgaz” companies. The sides agreed to set up special working group to study the possibility of replacement of Uzbek gas with Kazakh natural gas in southern regions of the country. In case of increase in requirements, the sides confirm the possibility of increase in the gas supplies.
