World Bank Country Office in Uzbekistan hosted a press conference dedicated to results of study "From Disintegration to Reintegration: Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union in International Trade, analyses the evolution of trade by 27 transition countries since the fall of communism" on 6 March. The study's lead author is Harry Broadman, World Bank Economic Adviser. He also worked in various post within the World Bank. It finds in the decade and a half since the disintegration of the Soviet trade bloc, the region as a whole has experienced rapid trade flows – so much so it now trades largely in line with comparable regions in the world. The report said two blocks - Euro-centric trading bloc and Russia centric trading bloc – emerged. The study says the Euro-centric trading bloc comprises the eight new countries of the European Union (EU-8), Turkey, and increasingly many of the seven Southeastern European (SEE) countries. The "Russia-centric" trading bloc largely comprises the 12 countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The study analysis reasons of emerging of two blocs and factors affecting trade development, as well as shows ways of eliminating problems. Broadman said internal reforms should be carried out to ensure economic development. He said all CIS state should intend to become member of the World Trade Organization. The press conference also noted positive moments of development in many countries. It was noted that the current trade surplus in many CIS countries are increasing.
