August 16, 2007. SCO summit opens in Bishkek

A Summit of heads of states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is starting today at the Ala Archa government residence at the foothills on the southern outskirts of Bishkek. The participants of the summit will exchange opinions on actual international and regional problems; will review the work of the SCO and its bodies over the past year, including the changes made in its structure and the Secretariat status. Besides, heads of SCO member-states will discuss issues of further deepening of cooperation within the framework of SCO; will determine objectives and goals for long-term and medium-term outlook. The SCO summit in Bishkek is expected to end with signing of ten documents, including an agreement on long-term neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, Bishkek declaration and communique.
