November 1, 2007. UNDP, Women’s Committee announce contest for journalists
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Uzbekistan and Women’s Committee announced a competition for journalists for the best coverage of issues on elimination of discrimination against women. The contest will be held within the project “Legislative and Institutional Capacity Development for Women’s Empowerment in Uzbekistan”, which directed to support and build the capacity of the government, civil society and mass media in reducing the gender gaps via raising awareness of and implementing the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to Uzbekistan. The contest aimed to motivate journalists of Uzbekistan to cover gender-related issues to raise gender awareness and knowledge of UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), as well as eliminate gender stereotypes in the community. Representatives of print-media, TV and radio stations and Internet outlets are eligible to participate. Deadline for submission of applications and materials is 1 November 2007. Applications can be submitted via email to cedaw.undp@gmail.com or khilola@gmail.com or delivered to UNDP Uzbekistan office at 4, Shevchenko, Tashkent, 100029, Uzbekistan. Please indicate Summer School “Gender awareness through media” on envelope.
