The participants of the eighth consultative meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Transport Sector Coordinating Committee, which took place in Manila (the Philippines), discussed draft CAREC Transport Sector Strategy for 2008-2018. Delegations from the eight CAREC participating countries and representatives of international multilateral institutions, including Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme and World Bank attended the event. The Transport Sector Strategy has three overarching goals: to establish competitive transport corridors across the region; to facilitate efficient movement of people and goods across borders; and to develop safe, people-friendly transport systems.
