UNDP offered to reduce the poverty level of population in Kazakhstan by 2015

International executive committee UNDP offered to Kazakhstan to reduce as twice the poverty level of population, living in villages by 2015. It was announced today in Almaty by the UN coordinator in the republic Haoliang Xu during media briefing "International executive council UNDP on social and economic situation in Kazakhstan, agency reports. Haoliang Xu stated, that for this period "we are in talks with the state bodies with the aim of setting of higher level in juncture with development goals in the eve of the millennium, which Kazakhstan attained." "One of the suggestions, for instance, is to reduce as twice the number of people, who are living below the level of poverty in villages by 2015. Kazakhstan achieved the common goal on reduction of poverty for the period starting from 90-ies …today we are working, in order to set a higher level," he said. "According to the UN data, at the moment the level of poverty in Kazakhstan - 18,2%. It is the percent of people whose income is below the living minimum … In 2005 this index was lower, about 11%...In Astana, Almaty the level of poverty 5 - 6% and perhaps lower," Haoliang Xu stressed. According to Haoliang Xu, Kazakhstan has one of the best results among CIS on poverty level. Official data of the state bodies show that GDP per capita in Kazakhstan for he beginning of 2008 made up for USD6700. In correspondence with the global index of human development data, which is counted by the UNDP, Kazakhstan took 79 place in the list of countries where the index was counted. In the report on human development for 2007 Kazakhstan rose by 6 lines and is placed at 73 place among other countries," Haoliang Xu stated.
