President Emomali Rahmon met with Saudi Prince Al-Walid ibn Talal Abd al-Aziz Al Saud. In the course of the talks, the two discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia. President Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attaches significance to expansion of friendly relations with all Arabic states as whole and Saudi Arabia in particular. Positively assessing the level and quality of developing relationships of Tajikistan with Arab and other Muslim states, President Rahmon and Prince Al-Walid ibn Talal exchanged views on ways and means to expand economic cooperation. Prince Al-Walid ibn Talal showed interest in investment projects in Tajikistan and expressed readiness to participate in funding them. Both sides vowed to boost regional trade-economic and scientific-cultural cooperation.

The Islamic Development Bank is ready for active cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, the bank’s president Ahmed Mohamd Ali told during a meeting with foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan Ednan Karabaev. During the meeting the sides discussed investment projects of Kyrgyzstan in the fields of hydropower engineering, mining-processing industry, and tourism.

Kyrgyz Minister of Foreign Affairs Ednan Karabaev met with head of Saudi Development Fund Dr. Yusuf ibn Ibrahim Al-Bassam within the framework of his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects of cooperation between the two countries and organization and conducting the Second Kyrgyz-Saudi Investment Conference and opening Trade Houses in Bishkek and Er-Riad.

Kyrgyz foreign minister Ednan Karabaev’s official visit to Saudi Arabia was started. E.Karabaev had a meeting with speaker of Saudi Arabia’s Majlis As-Shura (Consultative Council) Sheikh Dr. Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Humaid. The parties exchanged views on expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia, expressed aspiration for exchange visits during a year. E.Karabaev offered to expand cooperation between the states in scientific-technical fields, cultural and humanitarian relations and invited Sheikh Dr. Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Humaid to visit Kyrgyzstan once again.

Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, received the Kazakhstani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Kairat Lama Sharif, at his office. The two discussed economic and investment issues related to their respective countries. Ambassador Sharif commended Prince Alwaleed on his local and international investments in the various sectors that include hotels, banking and media. The meeting was focused on potential investments in Kazakhstan. Moreover, the Ambassador extended an invitation to Prince Alwaleed to visit his country in the near future to explore investment opportunities there. The meeting concluded with the Prince expressing his willingness to explore investment opportunities in Kazakhstan and to visit it soon.

K.Bakiyev congratulated the ambassadors on beginning of their diplomatic missions in Kyrgyzstan.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan Kayrat Lama Sharif met the Secretary General of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce Dr. Fahd Bin Saleh Al Sultan in Riyadh. During the talks the Ambassador K. Lama Sharif noted that the Kazakhstan party is interested in a more active participation of the Saudi business in development of industry of Kazakhstan with attraction of the newest technologies. The parties agreed that the effective tool of achievement of the set objective would become the second session of the Kazakh-Saudi business council, which is scheduled for spring, 2007 in Astana.

Bahtikoja Izmuhambetov, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of RK, met with Hashem ben Abdullah al-Yamani, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Saudi Arabia. Issues related with all areas of the bilateral co-operation have been discussed. The growing co-operation in different areas of national economies of both countries was marked: oil, gas transport communications, and construction. Special attention was paid to crediting, investments, combating international terrorism, and other issues.

Hashem ben Abdullah al-Yamani, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Saudi Arabia, will visit Kazakhstan from 29 to 31 October. During the meeting there will be held discussions on Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO, as well as discussions on a wide range of issues of the bilateral co-operation and key international problems of mutual interest.

President Emomali Rahmonov received Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tajikistan Ali Hamdan. During the talks they discussed issues related to the implementation of reach agreements and holding of a business forum of Tajik and Arab entrepreneurs in Dushanbe in the fall of this year.

A delegation of Saudi Arabia arrived in Uzbekistan on Sunday, 5 March. Director-general of international economic relations at Finance Minstry of Saudi Arabia leads the delegation. The delegation also includes Doctor Ibrahim Al-Barrak, advisor on economic issues of Finance Ministry, and Fahad Al-Harashi, advisor on tax issues of Finance Ministry. The delegation will stay in Uzbekistan till 10 March and discuss with the Uzbek authorities agreement on avoiding double taxation between Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.

A delegation of Majlis as-Shura (Consultative Assembly) of Saudi Arabia led by its chairman Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Khumeid started five-day visit to Uzbekistan. The delegation met the Speaker of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (lower house) Erkin Halilov on 13 December 2005. The sides considered issues on expansion of inter-parliamentary relations. It was noted that the visit will strengthen relations between parliaments. On the same day, the delegation met chairman of the committee on religious issues of the Cabinet of Ministers Shoazim minovarov and chairman of the Uzbek Muslims' Board Abdurashid Bahromov. During the talks, the sides discussed issues on cultural- enlightening and religious relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia.

2-3 May the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Riyadh jointly with Saudi council of chambers of trade and industry held a session of the Joint Counsel of Businessmen of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia, Kazinform has learnt from Kazakhstan MFA press service. Kazakhstan was represented by the delegation of well-known businessmen with Kazakhtelecom JSC president Khairat Karibzhanov in the head. The members of Saudi party were leading businessmen with co-chairman of the Business Council Abdurakhman az-Zamil. During the enlarged session Saudi businessmen were particularly interested in Kazakhstan pointing out territorial, economic, cultural and religious commonness of the two states. In this connection the Saudi party suggested carrying out a Week of Saudi Arabia in Kazakhstan. Both parties agreed on collaboration in this question. Khairat Karibzhanov commented upon the principles of the Message of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan. The Business Council attaches great importance to obtainment of direct link between businessmen of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia. The basic subject of the session was attraction of investments into Kazakhstan’s economy and increasing of Saudi export in Kazakhstan. The Embassy of Kazakhstan organized a special exhibition devoted to the modern development of Kazakhstan.
