April 23, 2008. Session of the integration committee of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) in Moscow will consider the issues of custom union forming of Kazakhstan, Belorussia and Russia
During the session of the integration committee of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) in Moscow will consider the issues of custom union forming of Kazakhstan, Belorussia and Russia. It was announced today at the briefing by the Foreign ministry of Kazakhstan spokesman Erzhan Ashikbayev, agency reports. "During the meeting the parties will discuss the issue of custom union forming of Kazakhstan< Belorussia and Russia within the framework of the EurAsEC, as well as a number of other topical issues," E. Ashikbayev said. As it was informed before, the 39th session of the Integration committee of the EurAsEC will be held on April 23 in Moscow.

April 23, 2008. Belarus, Kyrgyzstan ink trade-economic cooperation protocol
The forth session of the Kyrgyz-Belarus Interparliamentary commission, which took place in Bishkek today resulted into signing a trade-economic cooperation protocol. The commission examined the joint work of the two countries in 2007 and discussed prospects for 2008. The 11-member-delegation headed by the Belarus deputy prime minister Ivan Brylev arrived in Bishkek yesterday. The main topics discussed during the session were cooperation in such issues as agricultural vehicles’ park upgrade, industry development, tourism, transport, sport, education and culture. The session participants have also defined the date of the next, fifth session of the commission. The delegation members have visited Kara-Balta auto-repair plant, where Belarus intends to launch tractor assembling industry. Today the plant’s car-park counts about 24 thousand tractors, 95 percent of which are completely worn-out. “The first lot of 20 tractors is expected to be produced by the end of 2008,” Arstanbek Nogoev, the Kyrgyz Minister for Agriculture, Water and Processing industry said.

March 28, 2008. CIS foreign ministers’ meeting to consider 15 draft documents

15 draft documents will be considered at a session of the CIS council of foreign ministers that is scheduled to be held in Moscow on March 28. According to the preliminary agenda, the session is supposed to consider a draft plan of main events to mark the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 with regard for national programs. Major part of this plan is dedicated to issues related to social protection of veterans and invalids of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The CIS foreign ministers are also expected to consider a draft resolution on raising efficiency of work of the TV and radio company Mir as well as a progress of implementation îf the plan of multilevel inter-MFA consultations in 2007 and the plan of consultations for 2008. They will also discuss a draft resolution on a concept of cooperation in providing information security within the CIS area and a draft statement by the CIS heads of state on expansion of cooperation in fighting drug trafficking.

Representatives from the working group for coordination of projects aimed at supporting modernization of the information-technical equipment of the customs services of member nations of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) will hold a meeting in Kostanai, Kazakhstan from March 27-29 to discuss cooperation issues. The participants of the meeting will discuss strategic tasks of work on modernization of the information-technical equipment of the EurAsEC customs services as well as organization of technological interaction among information systems of the EurAsEC customs services.

EurAsEC states support creation of the Eurasian Migration Center initiated by Kazakhstan, the agency reports referring to the State Committee of Kyrgyzstan on Migration and Employment. The member of the Committee for Socio-Cultural Development of Majilis of Kazakhstan Aldan Smayyl put forward this initiative during the inter-parliamentary and intergovernmental session on migration issues in Bishkek. "The main purpose of the center would be creation of the common for all community databases, assistance to improvement of the legislative base, development of the state strategy of EurAsEC republics, increase of knowledge of migrants, help in solution of their problems," the State Committee informed.

The informal summit of the leaders of CIS member states will take place in Moscow. The summit is expected to discuss topical issues related to cooperation within the CIS area, including a progress of implementation of the plan to further develop CIS. Nine international agreements on forming the legal base of the Customs Union were signed within the framework of session of the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) in Moscow. Thus Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus completed the process of forming the legal base of the Customs Union. "The signed documents have crucial importance for the further development of integration processes within the framework of the community," Russian Prime Minister Victor Zubkov said after the signing of agreements.

January 29, 2008. Turkmenistan, Belarus signed protocol on trade-economic cooperation
A protocol of the first meeting of the Turkmen-Belarusian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic cooperation was signed in Minsk. The document was signed by Belarusian vice premiere Alexander Kosinets and Turkmen vice premiere Hydyr Saparliyev. As Alexander Kosinets said in an interview with Belarusian telegraph agency (BelTA), the first meeting of the commission was held on the year of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Turkmenistan. According to him, a lot has been achieved in bilateral relations in this period. The direct flight Minks-Ashgabat has been launched, and a number of Turkmen students studying in Belarusian higher educational establishments have increased. "The sides outlined avenues of mutually beneficial investment cooperation in the sphere of construction of roads and bridges and pipelines servicing. We also have plans for gas wells repair in Turkmenistan and for overall development of cooperation in petrochemical and energy spheres," the Belarusian vice premiere said.

Kyrgyzstan is interested in continuing a work on the projects on effective use of water and energy resources, increasing transit-transport potential of the member-states of EurAsEC. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov told it during a meeting of the Interstate Council of EurAsEC in Moscow on the level of the heads of governments. Besides, Kyrgyzstan is interested in projects on development and implementation of interstate programs regarding rehabilitation of territories that were subjected to influence on uranium-mining and processing productions.

January 16, 2008. Economic Commission of CIS Economic Council to hold session in Moscow

The Economic Commission of the CIS Economic Council will hold a session in Moscow. There are nine items on the agenda. The priority will be given to the issues on improving the legal base of cooperation between the CIS member states in the economic sphere. The Economic Commission will also consider an agreement on main principles of the policy of the foreign currency regulation and control in the CIS member states, an agreement on setting up information systems of passports and visas of the new generation, an action plan of development and raising leasing efficiency in the investment process of the CIS member states by 2010. During the session reports on the progress made in implementing instructions of supreme bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be made. Experts will take stock of the progress in implementing decisions taken at the previous session of the Commission on December 19, 2007 as well as the draft agenda for the next session scheduled for April 4, 2008.

The heads of the divisions of the foreign affairs ministries of CIS member states engaged in the implementation of the plan of multi-level inter-ministerial consultations within the frame of CIS met on 16-17 January at the CIS Executive Committee headquarters in Minsk to hold talks. The participants of the meeting discussed the tasks the foreign political agencies of the CIS member-states are facing, particularly those concerning the implementation of the provisions of the CIS Development Concept and the Action Plan for its implementation. During the meeting, the representatives of the foreign political agencies also discussed the implementation of the plan of multi-level inter-departmental consultations within the frame of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2007, agreed on the project of the Plan of Consultations for 2008, and discussed the issues concerning the organization of the meeting of the Council of the Heads of CIS member-states in 2008.

November 29, 2007. EurAsEC education authorities meet in Novosibirsk to discuss cooperation issues
13th session of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) council for mutual recognition and equivalence of education certificates, scientific degrees and titles was opened in Russia’s Novosibirsk today. The session is considering draft agreement on cooperation in certifying and accrediting education facilities of EurAsEC member nations, and issues related to determining new functions of the council and extending its activities. The EurAsEC education ministers’ meeting will also be held here, which is aiming to consider a progress of implementation documents that were signed before.

November 23, 2007. CIS meeting in Ashgabat ends with signing of a number of documents

A regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of CIS member-countries wrapped up in Ashgabat. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, heads of delegations of CIS member-states - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine attended the meeting. A number of documents were signed at the end of the meeting, including in the field of adopting a common policy in standardization, meteorology and certification as well as streamlining customs procedures in exporting electricity across customs borders of CIS countries. It was decided to set up a group composed of agriculture ministers to develop a strategy of food market development. The CIS heads of government also discussed a concept of distance learning in CIS countries and the issue of attaching the status of base institutions of CIS countries to some higher education establishments. The meeting participants agreed to set up permanent exhibitions of CIS countries in the premises of the All Russia Exhibition Center in Moscow and to proclaim the year of 2008 Year of Literature and Reading in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The next meeting of the CIS heads of government council will be held in Minsk in May 2008.

November 23, 2007. Turkmen president met with CIS heads of government
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with heads of CIS governments before the start of a CIS heads of government council meeting on November 22. The meeting was attended by prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine, vice prime ministers of Uzbekistan and Georgia, CIS executive secretary Sergey Lebedev as well as members of the Turkmen government. The head of state urged all CIS countries to cooperate in the field of education, information-communication technologies, transport and communication. According to him, Turkmenistan is also interested in advanced "know-how" in agricultural sector as well as modern farm equipment. In conclusion, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that cooperation within the CIS would remain a defining vector in the foreign policy of Turkmenistan.
