March 17, 2008. Tajikistan, Syria to open embassies in Damascus and Dushanbe
President Emomali Rahmon held talks with Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Shara in Dakar, Senegal on sidelines of the 11th OIC Summit. The two discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan Syria. During the meeting, it was noted that the first session of the Tajik-Syrian economic commission would held in Dushanbe this year. Emomali Rahmon noted that he invites Syrian President Bashar Asad to pay an official visit to Tajikistan. They also considered the issue of opening of the Syrian Embassy in Dushanbe and the Tajik Embassy in Damascus. The same day, the Tajik head of state met in Dakar with Bahrain’ Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad to discuss establishment of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Bahrain. During the meeting, they exchanged views on establishment and expansion of cooperation in sectors like hydropower, transportation, gas and oil extraction, chemical, food and light industries, as well as agriculture, tourism, science, etc. The two also considered the possibility of both national and private investments of Bahrain in development of Tajikistan’s economy.

October 30, 2007. Nursultan Nazarbayev to pay state visit to Syria
Nursultan Nazarbayev will pay a state visit to Arab Republic of Syria on November 4 - 6. During the visit to Damascus the president plans to meet and hold talks with Syria President, vice President and Prime Minister. During negotiations parties will consider ways for development of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, culture and humanitarian spheres.

February 9, 2007. Tajikistan, Syria signed seven cooperation documents
Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov held talks with his Syrian counterpart, President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. The talks were focused on bilateral ties between Tajikistan and Syria and regional issues. Rahmonov and Assad signed a joint statement and presided over the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents between Tajikistan and Syria. The signed documents included government-to-government agreements between Tajikistan and Syria on cooperation in the field of culture, on economic and scientific-technical cooperation, on mutual protection of investments, on cooperation in the field of tourism, as well as memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of information and on bilateral consultations between MFAs of the two countries.

February 5, 2007. Tajikistan, Egypt to boost energy cooperation
Egypt is the first leg of President Emomali Rahmonov’s week-long visit to Egypt and Syria, scheduled for February 4-11. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt in the filed of energy is expected to be signed by Tajik and Egyptian officials in Cairo. Tajikistan seeks cooperation with Egypt on the construction of hydroelectric power stations and power-transmission lines. The Tajik side intends to submit for consideration of Egyptian officials a number of projects for rehabilitating and modernizing power plants in Tajikistan, launch of joint ventures on producing electricity meters, as well as projects for use of solar energy and technical support on introducing modern hydropower technologies.
