June 23, 2008. E. Karabaev met with head of Turkey-Kyrgyzstan friendship group Ibrahim Khasgur
On June 23, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ednan Karabaev met with parliamentary delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the head of Turkey - Kyrgyzstan friendship group Ibrahim Khasgur. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. During the meeting E. Karabaev emphasized fruitful work of session of Inter-parliamentary council of Turkic speaking countries in Antalya on forming Inter-parliamentary assembly, he expressed confidence in further activation of bilateral cooperation and focused attention on trade and economic cooperation. He stressed that Kyrgyzstan intends to create all favorable conditions for successful activity of Turkish business in Kyrgyzstan. The sides noted as the most successful direction of Kyrgyz-Turkish cooperation the education sphere and training of experts in various universities of Turkey.

May 14, 2008. Turkish companies to reconstruct cinemas and circus in Ashgabat
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a number of resolutions at a government meeting on May 12. The documents order the reconstruction of two cinemas and the building of the Turkmen State Circus together with an underground motor tunnel in Ashgabat. The reconstruction should start this May. The ministry of culture, TV and Radio will act as a principal of the reconstruction, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.

May 8, 2008. Turkmenistan to invest Euro 55 million in development of Mollakara resort
The ministry of health and medical industry of Turkmenistan is to sign a contract with Turkish company Erku for the design and construction of a new recreation center for 500 people, a two-storey hotel, and a solarium for 300 people on the bank of Duzly lake in the Mollakara resort. A residential house with improved conveniences for 18 flats will be also built for staff. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree to this effect "with a view to enlarging the Mollakara resort, further strengthening its material and technical base and enhancing its services to meet recreation needs of people in full."

March 27, 2008. Turkmenistan, Turkey single out energy, transportation, communication and tourism as priority areas of cooperation
The high level talks were held in Ankara as part of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Turkey. The talks began with "one-on-one" meeting of the two presidents. Then, the talks continued in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations of Turkey and Turkmenistan. During the meeting the sides discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic sphere, textile industry, construction, education, science and mass media spheres. Energy, transportation, communication and tourism were named among the priority and most promising areas of cooperation. The talks resulted in the signing of a joint communique, an intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation, a protocol on cooperation between the ministry of culture, TV and Radio broadcast of Turkmenistan and the Organization of TV broadcast of Turkey, and a protocol on cooperation between the foreign ministries of two countries.

March 18, 2008. Turkmen president to pay official visit to Turkey March 24-25
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will pay an official visit to Turkey on March 24-25. Vice Premier and foreign minister Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the visit at a government meeting. According to him, the sides are continuing the bilateral consultations to finalize interstate agreements to be signed on the result of high level talks.

March 3, 2008. Turkish company to build new cement factory in western Turkmenistan
Turkish Polimeks company will commence design and construction of a new cement plant with the capacity of 1 million tons of cement a year in Jebel town, Balkan province starting from April 2008. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a relevant resolution on it. According to the document, Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk State Concern will conclude a contract with Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve San. Tic. A.S at the value of Euro 180 million. The plant will be commissioned in May 2011.

February 28, 2008. Tajik-Turkish trade and economic relations have good potential: CCI head
Tajik-Turkish trade and economic relations are developing actively and have good potential for further expansion, Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), remarked at a meeting with Turkish delegation in Dushanbe. Turkish Ambassador to Tajikistan, Akif Aykhan, Turkey’s Jevahir Holding President, Ibrahim Jevahir, and representatives from this company, Yusef Jevahir and Islam Jevahir, took part at the meeting. During the meeting, Said noted that a two-way trade between the two countries in 2007 amounted to $500 million. The CCI head said that quite a lot of Turkish goods are currently on Tajikistan’s market, and Turkish companies now work in various sectors in Tajikistan, ranging from housing to construction of roads. However, there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties, he added. For his part, Ambassador Aykhan noted that Turkey has good experience in the construction sector and is ready to cooperation with Tajikistan in other sectors as well.

February 11, 2008. ADB looks to expand in South Caucasus and Central Asia
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is expanding its operations in Central Asia and the South Caucasus and in order to support this it will open new offices in Armenia, Georgia and Turkmenistan. The new offices, as well as an existing one in Azerbaijan, will be coordinated from a regional hub office in Istanbul, Turkey. ADB already has resident missions in all other Central Asian countries: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. “This is a dynamic region with exciting investment needs and opportunities in the public and private sector,” said Mr. Juan Miranda, Director General of ADB's Central and West Asia Department. “The core strategic areas include infrastructure, energy, urban services and public sector reforms. We add to these core areas a regional cooperation perspective, essentially to link these markets to others in the east, west, north and south.”

January 30, 2008. Turkish company to build new Ashgabat power station worth Euro 120 million
The state power supplying corporation Turkmenenergo of the Ministry of power engineering and industry of Turkmenistan is to sign a contract with Turkish company tus Proje Akaryakit Enerji Madencilik Telekominikasyon Insaat Sanayi Taahhut ve Ticaret A.S. for the design and construction of a new power station in Ashgabat totaling Euro 120 million. The gas turbine power station will have the capacity of 254 mW. It is meant to enhance the reliability of electricity supplies to the Turkmen capital and Akhal province. The power station will also have a variety of technological facilities and a branch railway. The construction is expected to start in March 2008 and be finished in February 2010.

January 2, 2008. Turkmen president talks over phone with presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkey
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov exchanged New Year's congratulations with presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkey. During the telephone conversation on December 28, the president of Turkmenistan and the president of Kazakhstan "unanimously acknowledged that there has not been such a fruitful and important period for the future of the Turkmen and Kazakh people in the whole history of relations between the two countries." On the same day, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov talked over phone with Emomali Rakhmon. The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of development of the Turkmen-Tajik relations in 2007 that made it possible to realize the potential of the bilateral interstate cooperation in specific areas and take it to the qualitatively new level. During the telephone conversation on December 29, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Abdullah Gul reaffirmed their adherence to the idea of strengthening and expanding bilateral partnership, which meets the interests of the friendly nations of Turkmenistan and Turkey.

December 24, 2007. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay return visit to Turkey in 2008
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed his intention to pay a return visit to Turkey in the first half of 2008 at a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey Hakky Akil. During the meeting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Hakky Akil emphasized the high level of the fruitful cooperation between the two countries and noted the successful work of Turkish companies in Turkmenistan. The sides also discussed the issue of construction of a mosque near the mausoleum of Nejmeddin Kubra, the holy Muslim site, in Kunyaurgench district which was proposed by Turkish President Abdullah Gul during his trip to Dashoguz province.

Kazakhstan and Turkey are interested in economic cooperation enlargement. This was stated by Presidents of two countries - Nursultan Nazarbayev and Abdullah Guel at a Kazakhstani-Turkish Business Forum in Astana. "Economic relations between our countries are developing full-fledged", - stated the leader of Kazakhstan. "But the potential is still not fully exhausted and efforts should be directed to make Kazakhstani-Turkish relations be developing more dynamically". Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Turkish Republic President Abdullah Gul held talks in Ashgabat. During the talks the heads of state noted the positive dynamics of economic cooperation. The talks resulted in signing a joint communiqu and the intergovernmental agreement on setting up the Turkmen-Turkish commission for economic cooperation. The first meeting of the commission will be held in the beginning of 2008. The two presidents agreed to introduce into practice regular top level meetings, no less than once a year.
