June 23, 2008. Kazakh-German working group on trade and economic coop holds its VI session in Berlin
VI session of the Kazakh-German working group on trade and economic cooperation is to start its work today in Berlin under the chairmanship of Kazakh Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Bakhyt Sultanov, Kazinform refers to the Economy MinistryŇs press service. The German side will be headed there by Vice Minister for Foreign Trade Karl-Ernst Brauner. Issues regarding perspective directions of the Kazakh-German coop, including bilateral interaction in energy, taxation, customs affairs, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, statistics, education, financial control, mail communication and small and middle business development are planned to be discussed at the sitting.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Executive Advisor to the CEO of Siemens AG Mr. Rudi Lamprecht and CEO of Gotz & Partner Mr. Stephan Gotz and a representative of the Gotz & Partner Company Mr. Hans Prodel. Greeting the German guests Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated long-term successful co-operation with the German large companies, in particular Siemens AG - one of Turkmenistan's long-term dependable partners. Noting that this co-operation had resulted in dozens of the joint projects successfully implemented in the sphere of healthcare, communication and other fields the Turkmen leader called for intensifying the business mutually advantageous relations.

June 2, 2008—June 8, 2008. HSB students visit Germany to improve their knoweledge
A group of students from the Higher School of Business (HSB) under the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan paid an eleven-day visit to Celle, a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany, on 28 April - 8 May 2008. The delegation included 20 students of the HSB, working for such organizations as the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activities, Uzbekistan Railways, Ipoteka Bank, administrations of various regions and others. During the visit to Germany, the Uzbek delegation participated in seminars at the German Management Academy of Lower Saxony (DMAN) dedicated to strategic management, covering economic policy in the EU and its agencies, external trade, business behavior, marketing as a management strategy. -

May 13, 2008. Makhtumkuli Fragi international scientific conference opens in Ashgabat
An international conference dedicated to the course of life and poetical heritage of Makhtumkuli Fragi, outstanding Turkmen poet-philosopher whose 275th birthday is marked this year, opened in Ashgabat on May 12. Azerbaijani, Armenian, Afghani, German, Indian, Iranian, Spanish, Kazakh, Chinese, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pakistani, Russian, Serbian, US, Tajik, Turkish, Uzbek, Ukrainian and Czech scientist arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the conference titled "Makhtumkuli and the world spiritual-cultural values.

April 16, 2008. Kazakhstan, Germany to accept program of cooperation in agriculture
Kazakhstan and Germany plan to accept the program of cooperation in the field of agriculture. The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurishbayev and the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Germany Gerd Muller informed at the meeting on Tuesday, the press service of Agriculture Ministry informed. "The arrangement to prepare and sign the program of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany in the field of agriculture has been reached. The similar program of cooperation was signed only between Germany and Russia," the press release informs. "The chairmen of agrarian departments signed the joint statement on cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture of two countries," the document states. The parties expressed readiness for joined work on updating of the park of combines, development of bio-power engineering, seed-growing and animal husbandry. G. Muller offered to discuss mutually advantageous cooperation between two countries at the intergovernmental level and confirmed readiness to assist Kazakhstan during WTO introduction," the press service informed.

Kazakh-German University invites scholars, academics, and students from Kazakhstan, Germany, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to participate on conference on the theme: The states of Central Asia: possible ways of modernization. Participants from all academic disciplines are invited. Contributions from students of Kazakh-German University and other universities in Central Asia are particularly welcome. The conference aims at creating a lively exchange of ideas between academics, professionals and students. Articles can be submitted in Kazakh, German, Russian or English language. February 28, 2008. Uzbek-German economic forum was held in Tashkent
Economic forum of Uzbek and German business circles was held in Tashkent. Minister of foreign economic relations, investments and trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev and Federal minister of economics and technology of Germany Michael Glos participated in the forum. The German businessmen received information on the investment climate, economic reforms, privatization process and development of small and medium business in Uzbekistan. The participants, including more than 100 representatives of 60 German companies, discussed development of economic and investment cooperation, as well as involvement of German companies in the privatization process in Uzbekistan. On the same day, the Uzbek-German working groups for trade and investment cooperation held a sitting. The members of the German delegation also held talks in a number of ministries and departments in Uzbekistan on the issues of cooperation.

February 27, 2008. Turkmen-German economic and energy forums were held in Ashgabat
A Turkmen-German economic forum was held at President Hotel in Ashgabat on February 25. A top business delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany led by minister for economics and technology Michael Glos participated in the forum. During the talks, the sides paid particular attention to discussing ways to strengthen cooperation in the banking and finances sector, as well as to expand cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, namely science, education, culture, sports and tourism. In the second half of the day, the talks continued at the ministry of oil and gas industry and mineral resources of Turkmenistan where the Turkmen-German energy forum took place. On the same day, the bilateral Turkmen-German talks were held at all other Turkmenistan's leading ministries and organizations.

February 26, 2008. Turkmen president received top German business delegation
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received top German business delegation led by minister for economics and technology Michael Glos. The delegation arrived in Ashgabat to attend the Turkmen-German economic and energy forums. It includes Germany's high-rank officials, members of Bundestag, foreign ministry representatives as well as a number of big German companies. Michael Glos said top German companies were highly interested in expanding their business at the promising Turkmen market. He underlined that Turkmenistan and Germany have a long-standing partnership which is now being taken to a qualitatively new level. The German business delegation informed the Turkmen side about its intention to boost cooperation with Turkmenistan in the oil and gas, transport-communication, construction, industrial and agricultural spheres.

February 7, 2008. German GTZ signs MoU with Turkmenistan for law reforms
GTZ, the German agency for technical cooperation, has signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with the institute of democracy and human rights of Turkmenistan. Under the document signed last week, GTZ ((Deutsche Gesellschaft f?r Technische Zusammenarbeit mbH) will provide assistance to Turkmenistan in the framework of its programme for law reforms in Central Asia. The MoU will pave way for creating the appropriate legislative base to promote democracy and market economy.

December 21, 2007. German business delegation to visit Turkmenistan in early 2008
A visit by the German federal minister of economy is scheduled for the beginning of 2008. The high-ranking delegation will include representatives of the German largest companies. This was announced by the minister of state at the German Federal Foreign Office, Gernot Erler, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a representative delegation, during the meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The sides spoke in favor of strengthening the trade-economic cooperation between the two countries and renewing the practice of holding Turkmen-German economic forums.

November 13, 2007. Conference "Central Asia and Europe: A New Economic Partnership for the 21st Century"
Germany as EU Presidency in the first half of 2007 therefore initiated an EU Strategy for Central Asia in order to strengthen and to focus the European approach towards the region. The EU Heads of State and Government adopted the strategy on 22 June 2007. The Conference "Central Asia and Europe: a New Economic Partnership for the 21st Century" shall serve as a first major stock-taking event after the adoption of the EU Central Asia Strategy. The focus is on the promotion of economic development, trade, investment, as well as regional economic integration, since these are crucial elements for regional stabilization and the development of stable societies in Central Asia. The Conference will be organized jointly by the Auswartiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) and UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe), supported by InWEnt Capacity Building International GmbH, the Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

A delegation of envoys in charge of human rights from the foreign ministries of four European countries arrived in Ashgabat. The delegation includes Michel Doucin from France, Guenter Nooke from Germany, Silvia Escobar from Spain and Jan Nordlander from the Kingdom of Sweden.The guests will be received at Turkmenistan's Mejlis, the ministry of foreign affairs and the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the president of Turkmenistan.
