Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce of Kazakhstan, the special representative of Kazakhstan at negotiations for WTO admission, Zhanar Aytzhanova informed journalists after the ceremony of signing of the protocol on completion of bilateral negotiations with Canada.

The Development Gateway Foundation is calling for nominations from around the globe for the third annual Development Gateway Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve the lives of people in developing countries. This year we are highlighting projects that empower or improve the conditions of youth. There are about 1 billion young people, aged 15-24, in the world today and eighty-five percent of them live in developing countries. Young people play a central role in the information society as first adoptors of information and communication technologies. The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in conjunction with the Woodrow Wilson Center's Kennan Institute, conducted an International Conference on Commercial Law Reform in Russia and Eurasia. The conference gathered together leading legal experts from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the United States, Canada, and Europe to assess the extent to which the legal infrastructure needed for a competitive market economy has been established and what future regulatory and legal reforms and policies are necessary.

November 30, 2004—December 1, 2004. 2004 Disability and Development Conference
From November 30 through December 1 at headquarters, the World Bank will organize its second international disability and development conference, entitled "Disability and Inclusive Development: Sharing, Learning and Building Alliances". This event constitutes a follow-up to the Bank's December 2002 international conference, and will take stock of the work done in the disability and development community over the past two years. The conference aims to build upon its past work in order to further reduce global poverty for disabled people. The event will involve many of the World Bank's partners, which include disabled persons organizations, civil society organizations, development agencies, donors, academia, labor organizations, and others. Participants will attend panel discussions, listen to keynote addresses from distinguished speakers within the disability and economic development communities, browse the many disability-related display booths, and share knowledge on state-of-the-art technology and best practice in disability work. The second day of the conference, December 1, marks World AIDS Day and will include a focus on the themes of "Disability and HIV/AIDS" and "Women, Children and HIV/AIDS."

November 18, 2004—November 19, 2004. Representatives of Bukhara Jews Congresses from U.S., Russia arrive in Tajik capital to attend jubilee events
A delegation of Bukhara Jews has arrived in Tajikistan at the invitation of the Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, according to information from the Dushanbe mayor's office. The delegation is led by Boris Qandov, head of the Congress of Bukhara Jews living in the United States and Canada and Yakov Leviyev, head of the Congress of Bukhara Jews living in Russia. The delegation will attend festivities dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Tajik capital city Dushanbe. Honored artists of the Tajik culture such as known dancer Malika Kalontarova and singer Shoista Mullojonova as well as businessmen are among members of this delegation.
