June 10, 2008. Astana reflects Kazakhstan's dynamic development: A.-M. Lizin
Kazakh Ambassador to Belgium Konstantin Zhigalov had yesterday a meeting with deputies of Belgian legislative body and members of "Kazakhstan-Belgium" intergovernmental friendship group. The meeting contributed to supporting contacts with reps of the Belgian establishment and allowed to discuss issues of the oncoming participation of Belgian deputies in the work of the XVII session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Astana. The deputies got familiarized with Kazakhstan's new achievements in socio-economic and political development. On the threshold of celebration of Astana's 10th anniversary the guests were demonstrated a documentary film about Astana prepared by world famous Belgian architectural bureau "BAR". Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's book "Kazakhstan's way" translated into French and Flemish - Belgium's state languages - aroused great interest among the attendees. The guests also expressed interest in the book "Kazakhstan - European Union: results and horizons of cooperation" published by Kazakh Embassy on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the EU and KZ.

May 30, 2008. Kyrgyzstan join Swiss import assistance program
Kyrgyzstan is about to join the Swiss import assistance program, Tajikan Kalimbetova, the Kyrgyz Minister of Finance said summarizing results of the Kyrgyz-Swiss Interparliamentary commission's session on May 29. The program will advance trade relationships between Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland, which as of 2007 made $238.6 million profit. "The both countries possess the required opportunities," Kalimbetova noted. The Swiss import assistance program supports small and medium businesses in countries with transition economies willing to promote their goods in Swiss and European markets.

Kazakhstani government invites Swedish investors to take part in "30 corporative leaders of Kazakhstan" state program. Galimzhan Pirmanov, vice-minister of economy and budget planning, stated it today during the 5th session of Kazakh-Swedish commission on trade-economic cooperation. "Using this event, I call Swedish side to take part in implementation of "30 corporative leaders" program," said Galimzhan Pirmanov. Along with this, he marked, that "the program has open character, and foreign companies equally with Kazakhstani residents can take part in it". "The basic demand to the participants is foundation of "revenue center" in Kazakhstan," said the ministry representative.

May 16, 2008. A Swiss delegation visited Ashgabat
A Swiss delegation led by Head of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia section of the Political Affairs Division of the FDFA Ambassador Christian Meuwly arrived in Ashgabat. During the visit to the Turkmen capital the members of the delegation including Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Turkmenistan Mr. Alain Guidetti received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and had a series of the meetings at the Ministry of Economy and Development. A bilateral intergovernmental agreement is issued upon concluding the talks. The guest visit the landmarks of the Turkmen capital.

Tajik-Swiss joint venture Somon Oil will start exploration of oil and gas reserves of the Obchai Qalacha and Navobod fields in the northern Sughd province before the end of this year. Tajik-Swiss joint venture Somon Oil received license from the Tajik government to prospect for oil and natural gas in northern Tajikistan. The company Somon Oil received the license to explore gas and oil reserves in Sughd’s Bobojonghafurov, Jabborrasulov and Ghonchi districts. The Tajik tripartite delegation that attended a June 14 annual Conference of International Labor Organization (ILO) and ILO Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Friedrich Buttler signed a Program of Cooperation on Decent Work between Tajikistan and the ILO for the years 2007-2009. April 20, 2007. Switzerland, GBAO government signed agreements on extension of two projects
Switzerland and the government of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (Gorno Badakhshan or GBAO), Tajikistan have signed agreements on extension of the Pamir High Mountain Integrated Program and Local Self-Governance Project in southeast and east Tajikistan for a total amount of 1, 083,000 US dollars. The overall goal of both – Pamir High Mountain Integrated Program as well as the Local Self-Governance projects is to contribute to poverty reduction through sustainable improvements in rural livelihoods in mountainous areas and promotion of local governance in Tajikistan.

A grant agreement for $8 million was signed in Dushanbe by Tajik Finance Minister Safarali Najmuddinov and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Country Director Rudolf Schoch. November 23, 2006. Swiss company to build fishing freezer boats worth over US $ 29 mln for Turkmenistan
Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov signed a decree approving the decision by the tender commission of the State Fishing Committee of Turkmenistan on selection of bids and the report by the expert commission on defining the winner of international tenders for design and construction of fishing freezer boats. According to the document, the State Fishing Committee of Turkmenistan is authorized to sign a contract with Kestrell Solutions Ltd (Switzerland) for the design and construction of six fishing freezer boats totalling US $ 29,100 mln. The boats should be supplied by July 1, 2009.
