June 2, 2008. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Marat Bakiyev visited Sweden
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Germany and Sweden Marat Bakiyev visited Sweden between May 27 and 31, 2008, the foreign ministry's press service reported. His visit was devoted to work out economic priorities of cooperation with Sweden. On this occasion, the embassy worked out and prepared a presentation regarding investment capabilities in Kyrgyzstan. M.Bakiyev visited one of the southern regions - Kiruna. He familiarized with a work of one of the biggest company in the world - LKAB (is an international high-tech minerals group of Sweden, one of the world's leading producers of upgraded high-tech iron ore products for the steel industry and a growing supplier of industrial minerals products to other sectors). And talked with the company's leadership. In Kuruna, it is decided to consider possibilities of establishing partnership relations with Kyrgyzstan. At the trade-industry chamber of Stockholm, an investment capabilities of Kyrgyzstan was presented, which attended by representatives of Swedish firms, organizations. He met with the trade ministry's state secretary and discussed issues of organizing the trip of Swedish businessmen to Kyrgyzstan. Besides, M.Bakiyev visited the offices of Eriksson and SWECO.

April 28, 2008. Amb. Olsson of Sweden: ‘Cooperation Can & Must Be Extended’
Year by year the scope of international cooperation of Uzbekistan is expanding. One of the countries with which Uzbekistan is now extending the multilateral relations is the Kingdom of Sweden. Speaking about Sweden we must note that this country is one of the economically developed, highly-technological and successful states in Europe. By the volume of its GDP which made up 333.1 billion dollars in 2007 Sweden secures one of the leading niches not only in Europe but also in the world. Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Sweden were established on April 8, 1992. By now Tashkent and Stockholm have established close ties in various areas of economy and are consistently developing the political, cultural and humanitarian relations.

October 19, 2007. Delegation of human rights envoys arrives in Turkmenistan
A delegation of envoys in charge of human rights from the foreign ministries of four European countries arrived in Ashgabat. The delegation includes Michel Doucin from France, Guenter Nooke from Germany, Silvia Escobar from Spain and Jan Nordlander from the Kingdom of Sweden.The guests will be received at Turkmenistan's Mejlis, the ministry of foreign affairs and the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the president of Turkmenistan. The delegation members will also have meetings at the education and interior ministries, the health and pharmaceutics industry ministry as well as with teachers and students of the law faculty of the Magtymguly state university.

October 17, 2007. Swedish foreign ministry's honorary councilor for CIS countries to hold talks in Turkmenistan
Swedish foreign ministry's honorary councilor for CIS countries, Torni Hinnemo, is on a visit to Turkmenistan. The Swedish diplomat will hold a number of meetings and talks in various Turkmen ministries. In particular, he will be received at the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan. He will also have meetings in the ministry of economy and finance and the ministry of education. As part of his cultural porgramme, Torni Hinnemo will go sightseeing in Ashgabat, visit largest museums of Ashgabat as well as historical-archaeological complex Nisa. Torni Hinnemo's visit will last until October 20.

May 28, 2007—June 15, 2007. Seminar to discuss journalism and democracy
Experienced journalists from selected countries in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and South Caucasus can apply to attend a journalism and democracy seminar in Sweden. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is organizing the event scheduled for May 28 to June 15, 2007 in Kalmar. Twenty successful applicants will be invited to attend the seminar, which will discuss the status of the media in the participants’ home countries and the role of journalism in the democratic process. Citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Moldova. Applications deadline: February 11. November 10, 2006. ADB to help strengthen poverty reduction results monitoring
An Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant package totaling US$900,000 will help boost the Tajikistan Government's results management for its poverty reduction strategy. The package comprises a grant of $500,000 from the Government of Sweden and $400,000 from ADB's Cooperation Fund in support of managing for development results.

July 7, 2006. Call for applications to participating on Swedish Professorship Award (SPA)
"Economics education and research consortium (EERC) is inviting premier economics departments in the CIS to submit applications for the Swedish Professorship Award (SPA). Funded by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this award is designed to support research activities of returning Ph.D. faculty by providing a research supplement to their regular salary, and to facilitate their involvement in EERC’s networking activities. Applications must be submitted by potential host institutions. Submission Deadline is July 7, 2006. Individual candidates for the Award must be CIS nationals who will hold a Ph.D. degree in economics in the beginning of academic year 2006-2007. They are expected to be full-time teachers at reputable universities in the CIS region. Applications must be submitted by POTENTIAL HOST INSTITUTIONS by email Mikheeva@eerc.ru or at www.eerc.ru/SPA.
