December 8, 2006. Memorandum on strategic partnership in Central Asian railway system was signed in Almaty

Heads of administrations and national railway companies that participated in the two-day international regional business forum "On Strategic Partnership Development No. 1520", signed a memorandum "On Strategic Partnership in the Development of Efficiency of the Central Asian Transportation System on the Basis of 1520mm Railways". The document was signed by the heads of administrations and national railway companies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Finland, and Estonia.

February 11, 2005—April 15, 2005. Open Society Institute - Soros Supplementary Grants Programme

This programme was created to assist the citizens of Central and Eastern Europe - CEE, the former Soviet Union and Mongolia, who are pursuing advanced study within this region but outside of their home countries. It is part of the Open Society Institute's overall efforts to strengthen the academic network within and among these countries. The objective is to support cross-cultural, intra-regional student mobility.

Grants will be offered to: I. standard eligibility students of the social sciences, humanities and fine and performing arts, who have already arranged for part of the costs of their to be covered; II. special need students: Roma; refugees; people seeking political asylum; displaced (forced migrants).

Participating countries are: Albania; Armenia; Azerbaijan; Belarus; Bosnia & Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Croatia; Czech Republic; Estonia; Georgia; Hungary; Kazakstan; Kyrgyzstan; Latvia; Lithuania; Macedonia; Moldova; Mongolia; Poland; Romania; Russia; Slovakia; Slovenia; Tajikistan; Turkmenistan; Ukraine; Uzbekistan; Yugoslavia.
