May 13, 2008. Makhtumkuli Fragi international scientific conference opens in Ashgabat
An international conference dedicated to the course of life and poetical heritage of Makhtumkuli Fragi, outstanding Turkmen poet-philosopher whose 275th birthday is marked this year, opened in Ashgabat on May 12. Azerbaijani, Armenian, Afghani, German, Indian, Iranian, Spanish, Kazakh, Chinese, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pakistani, Russian, Serbian, US, Tajik, Turkish, Uzbek, Ukrainian and Czech scientist arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the conference titled "Makhtumkuli and the world spiritual-cultural values.

April 28, 2008. Turkmenistan proposes amendments to Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project
Issues related to preparation of a framework agreement on construction of a transnational gas pipeline were discussed in Islamabad on April 20-25 as part of the 10th meeting of the steering committee of the Trans-Afghan gas pipeline project. The delegation of Turkmenistan led by the minister of oil and gas industry and mineral resources, Baymyrat Khojamuhammedov, attended the meeting. The Turkmen side has proposed some amendments to the draft framework agreement taking into account its position on the sale of gas exclusively on the border of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) reports. Delegations of India and Pakistan also proposed amendments to the document. The sides agreed to submit the draft agreement to their governments for approval. "As regards terms and conditions of the draft agreement, the discussions focused on the gas price issue. In this regard, the meeting participants agreed that the gas price should be formed on the basis of the current situation on the global energy market," the TDH said. The sides also agreed to continue discussions at the level of technical groups to bring their positions closer. The first meeting of experts is scheduled for the next month. On the Indian side suggestion, the Trans-Afghan gas pipeline project steering committee will gather in Delhi coming autumn.

April 7, 2008. Turkmenistan, India sign memorandum of understanding on cooperation in oil and gas sector
The ministry of oil and gas industry and mineral resources of Turkmenistan and the ministry of oil and natural gas of the Republic of India signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The signing ceremony took place in Ashgabat on April 5 on conclusion of negotiations between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Indian Vice President, Chairman of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament Hamid Ansari who arrived in the Turkmen capital at the head of a high-profile delegation. According to a report by the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH), the development of effective cooperation in the fuel-energy sector was paid particular attention during the talks. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited Indian partners to join such important international project as the construction of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India gas pipeline. Hamid Ansari, in turn, expressed sincere gratitude to Turkmenistan for supporting India who wished to join this important project. The Indian Vice-President said Indian big companies expressed willingness to establish closer cooperation with Turkmenistan. The sides highlighted agriculture, textile and pharmaceutical industries as promising areas of cooperation. The sides spoke in favor of boosting cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, in particular in education and science as well as in information technologies. As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the Turkmen president's official visit to India has been scheduled for the near future.

March 6, 2008. Indian companies seek to participate in investment in Tajikistan’s mining
Five Tajik companies such as Ziyoratshoh, Tajikkabel, Dilnoz, Bibi Maryam and the Union of Entrepreneurs and Exporters of Tajikistan are participating at a March 3-6 INDO-CIS Reverse Buyer Meet 2008 in Jalandhar and Bangalore, India. The meeting has been staged by India’s Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC). The main objective of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to prospective importers in CIS area to interact with Indian counterparts about their requirements and provide an opportunity to Indian exporters to adjudge the acceptability of their products in the above markets, so that they are in a position to plan their strategy accordingly. Indian companies are interested in investing in development of mining sector and production of cement in Tajikistan.

February 7, 2008. Foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and India signed cooperation program
Three-day official visit of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign minister Ednan Karabaev to India is wrapped up with acceptance of a joint statement of the foreign ministers and signing cooperation program between the two states’ ministries. October 11, 2007. A protocol on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation between Tajikistan and India to be signed in Dushanbe
A two-day meeting of Tajik-Indian commission for trade and economic cooperation was opened in Dushanbe yesterday. Indian delegation, comprising nine persons and led by Commerce Secretary Sri Pillai (phonetically spelled), who is also co-chairman of the Tajik-Indian economic commission, participated at the meeting. The commission co-chairman on the part of Tajikistan is Economic Development and Trade Minister Ghulomjon Bobozoda. Yesterday, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of commerce, industry, tourism and health care. The meeting is expected to result in signing of a protocol on trade-economic and scientific-technological cooperation between Tajikistan and India.

October 3, 2007. Tajik-Indian business forum to be held in Dushanbe
A business forum with participation of Tajik and Indian entrepreneurs is expected to be held in Dushanbe on October 12. An agreement on holding the forum was reached at a meeting of head of the Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sharif Said with Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Omar Singh in Dushanbe. Some 30 Indian entrepreneurs, presenting various branches of Indian food, textile and processing industries, are expected to attend the business forum in Dushanbe.

October 2, 2007. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay an official visit to India
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India Mohammad Afzal who handed over to the head of state his credentials. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov informed the ambassador about his intention to pay an official visit to India at the head of a top-level Turkmen delegation early next year. In the course of the meeting the sides discussed the state of and prospects for Turkmen-Indian partnership. The sides singled out the fuel and energy sphere, agriculture, education, culture, healthcare and high tech as priority areas of cooperation.

August 8, 2007. President Rahmon highly appraises level of Tajik-Indian relations
State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India were discussed at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Indian Deputy Foreign Minister, Nilekantan Ravvi, in Dushanbe. President Rahmon stated that Tajikistan attaches great significance to its relations with India and highly appraised the present level of Tajik-Indian relations, which are continually developing and are an important factor of peace and stability in the region. During the meeting, the sides considered issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India in the fields of tourism, hydropower, pharmaceutics, food supplies and minerals. The sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues being of mutual interest.

June 4, 2007. Tajikistan, India to sign MoI on rehabilitation of Varzob-1 power plant soon
Tajikistan and India will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoI) on rehabilitation of a 7.4 MW Varzob-1 hydropower plant in Dushanbe in the near future. The Government of Tajikistan on May 31 endorsed the memorandum. Tajik Energy and Industries Minister Sherali Gulov and Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Omar Singh will sign it. The Government of India had granted an assistance of US$13 million for rehabilitating the Varzob-1 power plant.

The main objective of the International Congress is to determine the role of Turkic civilization among other civilizations in the process of globalization.
