May 15, 2008. G.Kirkilas offers to conduct the next Kyrgyz-Lithuanian business forum in Lithuania
Prime Minister of Lithuania Gediminas Kirkilas offers to conduct the next Kyrgyz-Lithuanian business forum in Lithuania. It was told at today's Kyrgyz-Lithuanian business forum in Bishkek. G.Kirkilas said Kyrgyzstan and Lithuania have signed numerous important economic treaties. "The commodity circulation between Kyrgyzstan and Lithuania since 2004 has increased in four times. I think it is not enough", - said the guest. The Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Lithuania have signed a treaty on setting up intergovernmental commission, which will work on the constant basis and solve problems in the field of business. The Lithuanian PM highly appreciated Kyrgyzstan's intention to further strengthening policy, making it more attractive. The guest expressed hope the states would cooperate not in the field of economy but also in other spheres - political, culture, defense.

May 15, 2008. Kazakhstan, Lithuania team up on energy
Lithuania is interested in developing energy cooperation with Kazakhstan, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas. "We touched on very important energy issues. This is very important for Lithuania," Kirkilas said during a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Kazakhstan Today news agency reported. "Lithuania needs alternative supplies of gas and, possibly, oil." He said the supply need comes from Lithuania's plans to close the Ignalina nuclear power plant. The possibility of constructing a liquefied gas terminal in Klaipeda, a seaport in Lithuania, was also discussed, Kazinform refers to UPI. "I think that Kazakhstan will participate in the construction of the terminal or in supplying liquefied gas," Nazarbayev said.

May 12, 2008. Lithuanian Honorary Consulate open in Kyrgyzstan
The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania will be launched in Kyrgyzstan, Stanislav Vidugiris, the Honorary consul of Lithuania in Kyrgyzstan informed the news agency "24.kg". The Lithuanian delegation headed by the Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas will visit Kyrgyzstan on May 14, 2008. Heads of ministries, members of parliament, business circles representatives, the Chancellor of Lithuania, and the director general of the Lithuanian railroad come over to meet with the Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev, the Prime Minister Igor Chudinov and sign number of bilateral agreements on double tax carve-out and investments attraction. The Lithuania-Kyrgyzstan business forum will run in the Ak-Keme hotel in Bishkek with attendance of Kyrgyz businessmen, the Honorary consul said.

April 24, 2008. Turkmen-Lithuanian business forum held in Ashgabat
A Turkmen-Lithuanian business forum was held in Ashgabat on April 23 as part of the Lithuanian government delegation's visit to Turkmenistan. The delegation is led by Lithuania's prime minister Gediminas Kirkilas. Heads and officials of a number of state and business structures of the two countries attended the forum. The Lithuanian delegation consisted of managers of the country's leading organizations and companies, including PAROS, ORANDA, Baltvesta, Linas AGRO, TRANSKALIS and others. At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for mutually beneficial partnership and specified its priority directions, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) reports. Lithuania's businessmen also made specific proposals for cooperation in the sphere of construction, food industry, agriculture, publishing, industry and transportation as well as health sector. Having supported the idea of expanding and diversifying the trade-economic cooperation and boosting trade between the two countries, the sides stressed the importance of continuation of the constructive dialogue.

April 23, 2008. Lithuanian prime minister arrives in Turkmenistan
A government delegation of Lithuania led by prime minister Gedeminas Kirkilas arrived in the Turkmen capital on April 22. This is the Lithuanian government's first visit to Turkmenistan. During the visit, the delegation of Lithuania, which also includes representatives of business circles, will take part in the Turkmen-Lithuanian business forum, as well as visit the international multipurpose exhibition "White marble city - Ashgabat", the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the official sources. A memorandum of understanding between the government of Turkmenistan and the government of Lithuania will be signed on results of the intergovernmental talks. It is expected that the Lithuanian prime minister will be received by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov tomorrow. The sides are to discuss prospects for and possibilities of establishing a broad mutually beneficial cooperation, first of all in the sphere of trade and economics.

February 1, 2008. Lithuania set to establish comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan Mejlis Speaker Akja Nurberdiyeva received credentials of Lithuanian Ambassador Kestutis Kudzmanas. The sides exchanged views on the prospects for deepening the cultural dialogue and inter-parliamentary relations. In particular, the sides discussed the potential cooperation in the sphere of science and education, healthcare and tourism, agriculture and construction. "Lithuania is very interested in establishing the comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan that Lithuania sees as a reliable partner," Kestutis Kudzmanas said during the meeting.

December 12, 2007. Kazakh, Lithuanian parliamentarians strengthen ties
Vice Speaker of the Majilis (lower house of the Kazakh Parliament) Sergei Dyachenko and a group of Majilismen met with the delegation of the Lithuanian Seym (Parliament) headed by the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. In the course of the meeting Sergei Dyachenko told the guests about the socioeconomic and political situation in Kazakhstan and noted the in-depth democratic reforms being conducted in the country. The sides spoke in favor of strengthening the inter-parliamentary ties between Kazakhstan and Lithuania in order to further development of the political interaction and economic partnership between the states.

The first international conference on public service “Modernization of personnel management – factor of increasing of efficiency of government service” was held in Kyrgyzstan. This programme was created to assist the citizens of Central and Eastern Europe - CEE, the former Soviet Union and Mongolia, who are pursuing advanced study within this region but outside of their home countries. It is part of the Open Society Institute's overall efforts to strengthen the academic network within and among these countries. The objective is to support cross-cultural, intra-regional student mobility.
