May 15, 2008—May 19, 2008. Visakha Buddha Bucha Festival 2008
The holiest day of the Buddhist calendar, Visakha Puja marks the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha on the day of the full moon in May. Thai Buddhists celebrate in style. Throughout the country people crowd the temples to hear sermons by important monks, offer donations and prayers and participate in picturesque, candelit evening processions. To attain a good rebirth, Thais believe that they must build up positive karma by doing good deeds. This auspicious day is a good opportunity for communal merit-making.
