In a conference hall of UNDP of Uzbekistan office the training formally entitled "Human development" will be held on August 25-29, 2008. The basic purpose of the given training is acquaintance of the teachers of the conducting educational centers of Uzbekistan with the concept of human development, and also their preparation for the further introduction of a rate "Human development" in the educational plans of high schools. As the basic lecturers the professors of conducting high schools of Russia (Russian State University) and Kazakhstan (Economic university of a name Ryskulov), specializing in teaching discipline of human development will be invited.

American Councils for International Education (ACCELS) supports cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on development of vocational education. Employee of the State Agency for Vocational Education under the Government of Kyrgyzstan Anara Korgonbekova told the Kabar Agency. Yesterday director of the State Agency for Vocational Education under the Government of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Askarov met with ACCELS President, Pr. Dan Davidson. During the meeting the sides discussed development of vocational education system of Kyrgyzstan and possibilities of cooperation between the ACCELS and the State Agency for Vocational Education. According to Dan Davidson, in frames of ACCELS project it s expected to render aid to establishments of vocational education of Kyrgyzstan.

Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Malaysia J.Kulubaev met with the minister of higher education of Malaysia, a spokesperson of the foreign ministry of Kyrgyzstan told. During the talks, J.Kulubaev informed the minister about carrying out reforms in the system of higher education of Kyrgyzstan and expressed Kyrgyzstan's interest in studying experience of Malaysia on reforming the higher education system and establishing cooperation between education ministries of the two states. The parties agreed to activate joint efforts for soonest signing of an agreement on cooperation in the field of education and exchanged opinions on expediency of contacts and visits at the level of heads of ministries for discussing concrete spheres of cooperation.

A Turkmen delegation has recently visited the capitals of Britain and France to learn the international experience of planning, monitoring and management in the education sphere. The visit was organized with the support of Turkmenistan's education ministry along with two UN agencies, UNICEF and UNESCO, as well as the British Embassy in Turkmenistan and British Council. During workshops held at the Institute of Education of the University of London and at the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning in Paris, Turkmen officials discussed a wide range of issues, which are of current importance in the context of reforms in the spheres of education and science under way in Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent has learned from the UNESCO office in Ashgabat. The sides also explored ways of establishing interstate cooperation in the education sphere.

The ministry of education and science of Kyrgyzstan announces a contest for school-leavers to higher educational institutions of Turkey, the ministry's spokesperson Mira Osmonalieva told. In concordance with the agreement on cooperation in the field of education between corresponding departments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, concluded in 1996, the ministry announces the contest for university entrants on magistracy and doctor of sciences.

Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov will attend the Central Asian education ministers' meeting that will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from June 12-13. According to the Ministry of Education (MoE), the meeting aims to discuss issues related to creating the Central Asian higher education area is supposed to end with signing of a memorandum on joining the Bologna Process. "Joining the Bologna Process means that our diplomas will be recognized by international community," the source at a MoE said, noting that the memorandum will be singed by education ministers of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

American Councils for International Education (ACCELS) expressed readiness to cooperate with vocational education system of Kyrgyzstan. Spokesperson of the state agency for vocational education under the government of Kyrgyzstan Anara Korgonbekova told it to a correspondent of "Kabar" News Agency. Director of the state agency for vocational education under the government of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Askarov met with director of ACCELS in Kyrgyzstan Everett Peachy on June 11. Issues of working out a pilot project between ACCELS and the state agency for vocational education were discussed at the meeting.

A foreign language training center was inaugurated at the Institute of Language and Literature named after Makhtumkuli in Ashgabat on June 9. The center was set up by the Supreme Council for Science and Technology under the President of Turkmenistan with the support of the UK Embassy in Ashgabat. The new training center is intended to help postgraduate students improve their English, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat. There are a library, a resource center, computer classes with Internet access for language learners.

Within his first visit to Kazakhstan Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Intel" Corporation Craig Barrett announced of start of initiatives' realization in cooperation with Kazakhstan's Government. "Intel" and Government of Kazakhstan concluded official agreement on intentions to realize state initiatives in the spheres of education informatization, development of wireless internet technologies and high-performance computing. "Partnership of state and private sectors is able to change life of humanity, especially due to integration of technologies into education", Mr. Barrett stated. "President Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed out an aim to enter the 50 most competitive countries of the world. We share opinion that application of information-communication technologies for stimulation of economic growth and development is of paramount importance on the way toward this goal", he added. According to the agreement, Kazakhstan's teachers will be educated to apply digital technologies in educational process; educational establishments of Kazakhstan will get 300 computers. Several schools in Astana have already received 70 personal mobile computers each.

In line with the President's instruction, Kazakh Government has adopted a decision on creation of 20 intellectual schools of the 1st President in Kazakhstan. As Education and Science Minister Zhanseit Tuimebayev informed, the schools will be managed by a state-run Orken JSC that is being established at present. A draft decree on establishment of the Orken JSC with KZT 1.3 bln charter capital was approved at a governmental sitting. "The project is to be realized in 3 years," the Minister said. The schools will have quite new curriculum in accordance with the world educational standards. Graduates of intellectual schools will have an opportunity to enter any foreign university.

The 42nd international Mendeleyev chemistry Olympiad among schoolchildren opened in Tashkent on 29 April. Teams from Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria are participating in the event. Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan R.Kasimov attended the opening ceremony of the Olympiad. The participants will demonstrate both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of chemistry. Since 1997, representatives from Uzbekistan have won seven medals at the Olympiad. This is the first time Uzbekistan is hosting the international event. Uzbek team members were chosen amongst the students of academic lyceums and professional colleges all over the country based on the results of evaluation exams.

Senior officials of education ministries of Tajikistan and Russian met in Dushanbe on April 25 to discuss cooperation issues. The source at the Tajik Ministry of Education (MoE) said that the meeting participants, in particular discussed opening of branches of Moscow State University (MGU), St. Petersburg State Mining Institute (SPGGI) and Moscow Energy Institute (MEI) in Tajikistan. Tajik and Russian education officials reached an agreement to set up an inter-departmental commission for more detailed discussion of that issue, working out financial-economic mechanisms and laying legal foundation of the establishment of Russian universities’ branches in the country, the source said. The sides considered it expedient to define the list of the most topical issues for exchanging views and working plan of joint actions before June 1, 2008. The meeting also discussed issues related to establishment of the MGU’s preliminary courses, the source said.

The students of the Higher School of Business (HSB) under the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan got acquainted with the activity of the Asian Development Bank. Mr.Kiyoshi Taniguchi, country economist at ADB Uzbekistan Resident Mission, presented the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and its activities, including in Uzbekistan. ADB is dedicated to poverty reduction in Asia and the Pacific, a region that is home to two thirds of the world’s poor. Established in 1966 and headquartered in Manila, ADB is owned and financed by its 67 member countries, of which 48 are from the region and 19 are from other parts of the globe. It contributes low interest loans, guarantees, grants, private sector investments, and knowledge and advice to help build infrastructure and improve essential services such as health and education to boost quality of life, particularly for the nearly 1.9 billion people in the region still living on US$2 or less a day. ADB’s focus is on encouraging economic growth, social development, and good governance, while promoting regional cooperation and integration in partnership with governments, the private sector, and nongovernment and international organizations.

An international action called "The biggest lesson in the world. Every child has the right for education" was held at Rukhanama special school. The event was organized by the ministry of education of Turkmenistan and UNICEF. The action is part of the Global Action Week on Education for All which has been held in Turkmenistan for the first time. It will continue until April 27, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat. A best essay contest among pupils of the 8th and 9th form was also held within the framework of the week. Other than this, the education week programme also included the best poster contest, exhibition of children's drawings and sport competitions. All participants and winners of contests received gifts and encouragement prizes.

OSCE Center in Dushanbe, jointly with the Dushanbe NGO Child Rights Center and representatives of several international organizations participated in the inauguration of an OSCE-funded addition to the Youth Centre located in Dushanbe’s Sino district. Ms. Rukhshona Nazhmidinova, Senior Press and Public Information Assistant, OSCE Center in Dushanbe, said that the newly refurbished part of the Youth Centre will now house a conference room, which also serves as a library for the youth, a modest exercise facilities room along with showers, and a barber-shop instruction room for interested youth.
Funding for renovation of two youth centers in Sino and Firdavsi districts were allocated by OSCE for the juvenile justice alternatives projects, a justice policy being taken up by the Government of Tajikistan.
