Turkmen deputy prime minister, foreign minister Rashid Meredov delivered a report at a government meeting yesterday on preparations for Turkmen president's forthcoming visit to Tatarstan Republic scheduled for 28-29 June. The minister also said that a set of documents to be signed on results of Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev's visit to Turkmenistan next month is being agreed with the Russian side, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) reports. Rashid Meredov also briefed the head of state on preparations for the Turkmen president's forthcoming visit to Kazakhstan to attend a meeting of CIS and other heads of state as well as a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Kazakh capital.

Kazakhstan - Kyrgyzstan cultural cooperation was discussed in Bishkek on Wednesday, the agency reports referring to the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kyrgyzstan. According to the press service of the Ministry, bilateral meetings of Culture Minister Sultan Rayev with Vice Minister of Culture of Kazakhstan Mynbay Darhan Kamzabek uly took place during the fifth meeting of Culture Ministers of SCO member states. S. Rayev noted that mutual relations in the field of culture and arts between SCO countries have been developing. SCO festival in Bishkek and creative forum of intelligentsia of the neighboring countries were held last year in Almaty. To expand such cooperation, S. Rayev suggested activization of exchange of creative collectives, in particular, theatrical and art, especially from frontier oblasts of the Republics. The arrangement on renewal of publishing of scientific-literary magazine in the Kazakh and Kyrgyz languages Alatau-Alataoo has been reached. Aytmatov's books will be published in Kazakhstan, including his most recent work When Mountains Fall, as well as other Kyrgyz writers in the Kazakh language. The works of classical authors of the Kazakh literature will be published in Kyrgyz.

Ruslan Mirzayev, Uzbekistan's Minister of Defence, who arrived in Seoul on 24 June, holds talks, the first-ever ones in the history of relations between the two countries, with Lee Sang-hi, Defence Minister of the Republic of Korea (RK), here on 25 June. As a result of the talks, the sides are expected to sign a Memorandum of Intent envisaging the establishment of military-technical cooperation between the two countries and exchanges with military delegations, the RK Defence Ministry has announced. While in the RK, the 43-year-old Uzbek Minister is to tour the leading defence-sector enterprises with a view to determining the scope of and principles for the establishment of cooperation in the defence industry, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. The Yonhap news agency writes that Seoul intends to make use of Mirzayev's visit for improving the two countries' cooperation in the field of energy. Seoul believes that documents to be signed will furnish a basis for a further development of cooperation. The programme for the Minister's visit also provides for his familiarisation with the Korean Military Academy and National Defence University.

The fourth two-day session of the Tajik-Chinese intergovernmental commission for economic and cooperation is ending in Beijing, China today. According to the Tajik MFA, Tajik delegation participating at the session is led by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ghulomjon Bobozoda. The commission's session in Beijing has discussed issues related to the present state and further expansion of economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan and China and has summed up the results of work having been carried out by the commission since its third session, which was held in Dushanbe in September 2006. We will recall that the third session of the commission in Dushanbe focused on energy cooperation between the two countries, including rehabilitation of the Varzob, Golovnaya and Qairoqqum hydropower plants in Tajikistan and the possibility of China's investing in construction of small power plants in Tajikistan.

Prime Minister Igor Chudinov met with Executive Directors of the World Bank Michel Mordasini and International Monetary Fund Tomas Moser, who represent Swiss group of countries including Kyrgyzstan, the governmental press service reports. During the meeting the issues of further cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with WB and IMF were discussed. I. Chudinov expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the rendered financial aid in realization projects in all sectors of Kyrgyzstan's economy, which influence on social and economic development of the country. The Kyrgyz PM stressed fruitful cooperation with IMF in frames of Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility Program (PRGF). He also noted that its necessary to work out joint cooperation program in frames of PRGF. T. Moser stressed that IMF is ready to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan in frame of a new program. He said that the new program will be a signal for attracting means of international donors and investors. M. Mordasini told that the World Bank highly appreciates efforts of the Kyrgyz Government and is ready to render aid in solving problems of economic character. The World Bank welcomes possible cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with IMF, as this will be a positive background to hold negotiations with other international finance organizations.

On June 23, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ednan Karabaev met with parliamentary delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the head of Turkey - Kyrgyzstan friendship group Ibrahim Khasgur. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports. During the meeting E. Karabaev emphasized fruitful work of session of Inter-parliamentary council of Turkic speaking countries in Antalya on forming Inter-parliamentary assembly, he expressed confidence in further activation of bilateral cooperation and focused attention on trade and economic cooperation. He stressed that Kyrgyzstan intends to create all favorable conditions for successful activity of Turkish business in Kyrgyzstan. The sides noted as the most successful direction of Kyrgyz-Turkish cooperation the education sphere and training of experts in various universities of Turkey.

State and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan were a focus of a meeting of Tajik Ambassador to Tajikistan Asomuddin Saidov with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov in Bishkek on June 19. According to Kyrgyz government's website (gov.kg), in the course of the talks, the two discussed a board range of issues related to cooperation between the two countries in different fields. They, in particular, exchanged views on positions of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the issue of rational use of water and energy resources. It was noted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan share similar stances on this issue. Kyrgyz premier also underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries within the CASAREM (Central Asia-South Asia Regional Electricity Market) project, implementation of which will give both countries an opportunity of profitably purchasing surplus electricity to South Asia's states.

The 4th session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee has started today in Beijing within the framework of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee, Kazakh Embassy in China reports. Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev heads the Kazakhstani delegation consisting of diplomats and representatives of the domestic law-enforcement agencies. During two-day session the sides plan to sum up results of the work done since the 3rd session and coordinate the major spheres and directions of security cooperation. In addition, representatives of the Kazakh and Chinese law-enforcement agencies are to discuss problems of cooperation in counteraction to criminal activity.

Kazakh Ambassador to Belgium Konstantin Zhigalov had yesterday a meeting with deputies of Belgian legislative body and members of "Kazakhstan-Belgium" intergovernmental friendship group. The meeting contributed to supporting contacts with reps of the Belgian establishment and allowed to discuss issues of the oncoming participation of Belgian deputies in the work of the XVII session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Astana. The deputies got familiarized with Kazakhstan's new achievements in socio-economic and political development. On the threshold of celebration of Astana's 10th anniversary the guests were demonstrated a documentary film about Astana prepared by world famous Belgian architectural bureau "BAR". Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's book "Kazakhstan's way" translated into French and Flemish - Belgium's state languages - aroused great interest among the attendees. The guests also expressed interest in the book "Kazakhstan - European Union: results and horizons of cooperation" published by Kazakh Embassy on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the EU and KZ.

A two-day international conference entitled "The fight with corruption in Kyrgyzstan. Problems and perspectives" ended in Bishkek. Spokesperson of the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption Baktybek Rysaliev told it to a correspondent of "Kabar" News Agency. He told a memorandum on mutual understanding on bilateral cooperation in warning and fighting with corruption was signed on the results of the conference between the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption and anticorruption agency of Malaysia. Commissioner of the national agency of Kyrgyzstan on warning corruption Askarbek Bakeev and director general of the anticorruption agency of Malaysia Said bin Hamdan signed the document. Malaysia will help Kyrgyzstan to train personnel for agency on warning corruption according to the memorandum.

The 4th session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee will take place in Beijing on June 12, Kazakh MFA official spokesperson Yerzhan Ashikbayev told a weekly briefing on Monday. The session is believed to be co-chaired by deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan and assistant to Foreign Minister of China. Security Cooperation Subcommittee is one of the profile subcommittees of the Kazakh-Chinese Cooperation Committee. It is aimed at coordination of mutual cooperation in the sphere of security, including fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, cooperation between special services, military and law-enforcement bodies.

Development of cross-border trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan was a focus of a meeting of Mr. Odil Sangov, the deputy head of Tajikistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) with Mr. Erwin Stuzkler (phonetically spelled), consultant with International Center for Cross-Border Center, in Dushanbe on June 5, press release issues by CCI on June 9 said. The aim of international consultant's visit was to get acquainted with position of CCI and Tajik business community, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and craftsmen, on development of cross-border trade with Afghanistan. Mr. Sangov noted that small and medium-sized enterprises constitute 85 percent of the CCI members and suggested that a center for supporting SMEs participating in cross-border trade should be set up. The CCI official also offered to consider issues of financing this center.

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Igor Chudinov met with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia Dato Seri Mohammed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz. During the talks, I.Chudinov expressed thanks to the guest for participation in the international conference on corruption in Kyrgyzstan. I.Chudinov said the growth of GDP and budget receipts of the country is connected, above all, with successes in fighting with corruption and due to improving administration in customs and tax inspectorates. The PM emphasized that the country's further development is connected with fighting against corruption. The government on this occasion eliminates the reasons of origin of corruption. Kyrgyzstan attaches a great importance to the cooperation agreement that signed by anti-corruption agencies of Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia said that his country is ready to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan and assist in necessary recommendation, particularly, Malaysia is ready to share with experience and skills of fighting with corruption, assist in setting up electronic government. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia invited Igor Chudinov to visit Malaysia.

An OSCE delegation led by Alexander Stubb, the OSCE chairman-in-office, minister of foreign affairs of Finland, arrived in Ashgabat on June 5. The high guest will hold talks at the national parliament and visit OSCE center in Ashgabat, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports quoting official information. It is expected that Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will receive the OSCE chairman-in-office.

Sustainable development of the Eurasian continent I International forum has gathered ecologists from the CIS states, Europe and Asia, reps of international organizations and NGOs. The forum aims at elaboration of common position on XXI century's topical issues. Delivering a speech, Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Iskakov noted that Kazakhstan will host regular ministerial conference on Asian-Pacific region's sustainable development in 2010 and an analogous conference regarding European countries in 2011. According to the Minister, it is planned to initiate linking of European and Asian transition to sustainable development into a unified Eurasian process as well as suggest creation of a UN International Institute on sustainable development with headquarter in Astana. A Eurasian Water Center is being created in Astana at present. "This Center will serve as a large scientific-research organization which will solve problems of water resources ecology, water quality, elaboration and implementation of breakthrough projects on structural-information properties of water and its recreational potential", Mr. Iskakov said. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov sent a greeting telegram to the attendees of the forum.

Visiting OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb is currently holding talks with President Emomali Rahmon. As it had been reported earlier, during his stay in Tajikistan, Alexander Stubb is also scheduled to hold talks with Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and speakers of both chambers of parliament Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev and Saydullo Khairulloyev to discuss bilateral and other intentional priority areas. He will also meet with representatives of civil society and the international community. Topics on the agenda include support in fulfilling OSCE commitments, border security and management, OSCE engagement with Afghanistan, environmental security, human rights, working with civil society, and strengthening co-operation and regional stability. The Chairman-in-Office arrived in Tajikistan yesterday and will leave Dushanbe Tuesday evening.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Germany and Sweden Marat Bakiyev visited Sweden between May 27 and 31, 2008, the foreign ministry's press service reported. His visit was devoted to work out economic priorities of cooperation with Sweden. On this occasion, the embassy worked out and prepared a presentation regarding investment capabilities in Kyrgyzstan. M.Bakiyev visited one of the southern regions - Kiruna. He familiarized with a work of one of the biggest company in the world - LKAB (is an international high-tech minerals group of Sweden, one of the world's leading producers of upgraded high-tech iron ore products for the steel industry and a growing supplier of industrial minerals products to other sectors). And talked with the company's leadership. In Kuruna, it is decided to consider possibilities of establishing partnership relations with Kyrgyzstan. At the trade-industry chamber of Stockholm, an investment capabilities of Kyrgyzstan was presented, which attended by representatives of Swedish firms, organizations. He met with the trade ministry's state secretary and discussed issues of organizing the trip of Swedish businessmen to Kyrgyzstan. Besides, M.Bakiyev visited the offices of Eriksson and SWECO.

On May 29, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Romanian foreign minister Lazar Comanescu who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a high-rank delegation. During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the textile industry, agriculture, transport, tourism and fuel-energy sector, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) said. Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, namely education. The sides confirmed their intention to further develop cooperation between the two countries, including through such efficient mechanism as an intergovernmental commission. "Romania is looking forward to your visit. The very fact that Turkmenistan is the first country that I visit in my capacity as foreign minister speaks for foreign policy priorities of Romania that pays particular attention to development of relations with Turkmenistan," Lazar Comanescu said. The sides held bilateral economic consultations in the Turkmen capital on the same day. Members of the Romanian delegation also took part in consultations.

Kyrgyzstan is about to join the Swiss import assistance program, Tajikan Kalimbetova, the Kyrgyz Minister of Finance said summarizing results of the Kyrgyz-Swiss Interparliamentary commission's session on May 29. The program will advance trade relationships between Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland, which as of 2007 made $238.6 million profit. "The both countries possess the required opportunities," Kalimbetova noted. The Swiss import assistance program supports small and medium businesses in countries with transition economies willing to promote their goods in Swiss and European markets.
