National Statistics Agencies
Official statistics is an irreplaceable element of information system in democratic society providing data on socio-economic and demographic situation to government bodies and population thus ensuring their right for open access to information.
The main objective of the national statistical agencies is circulation of official statistical information on economic, social and demographic development to population and international community. In each country of Central Asian region there is a statistical agency elaborating and implementing unified policy in statistics, statistics collecting and processing, as well as providing access to available statistical data.
Statistical Agencies of the Central Asian states
According to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On state statistics", The Agency of statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan (http://www.stat.kz/ru/index.shtml) is an authorised body that forms and implements public policy in the field of statistics, develops and carries out programs on improvement of statistics in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Regional statistical departments work On the basis of the Agency of statistics (14 regional departments of statistics as well as departments of statistics of Almaty and Astana cities); as well as Republican State Enterprise "Information and Computer Centre"; and Republican State Enterprise "Kazstatinform".
The Agency on Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the assigned tasks performs the following basic functions:
- carries out an informational support to the activity of public administration bodies and economic entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- develops and carries out the programs on improvement of state statistics in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- provides accumulation, maintenance and actualization of the informational and statistical databases on socio- economic situation of the country and its regions;
- determines a minimal set of indicators of state and branch statistical reporting that reflect socio- economic and demographic processes, carries out population censuses, arranges market study at the enterprises and interrogations on studying of the population living standards, and other specific surveys;
- presents statistical information to international organisations in accordance with the obligations under the agreements in force as well as carries out an exchange of statistical information with foreign countries;
- publishes and distributes statistical compendiums, bulletins, economic reviews and other statistical materials in accordance with the procedures established;
- ensures safety of state and commercial secrets, confidentiality of primary statistical information in accordance with current legislation.

The National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyz Republic (NSC) is the central statistical office of the country. The Committee follows the "Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on national Statistics" (N 1391-XII, of January 12, 1994) that defines Independence of NSC and ensures confidentiality of the dtata provided to legal entities and population. NSC develops statistics according to international methodological recommendations and ensures objectivity and integrity of statistics.
The NSC is responsible for statistical data on population, households, demographic situation as well as industry, prices, foreign trade (in cooperation with the customs department), national accounts, state finance, agriculture, labour and social statistics. In the case of social statistics, the NSC compiles data from administrative records of other ministries and government agencies.

Collection and analysis of the statistical data in Tajikistan is charged to the State Statistical Committee of Tajikistan. The National Statistical Committee operates in according to the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan and the regulations on the State Committee.
The main tasks of the State Statistical Committee are as follows:
- pursuing national policy and management of national statistics;
- ensuring activity and improvement of unified statistical information system on the basis of scientific methodology and international standards;
- assuring integrity, reliability, and sufficiency of statistical data;
- comprehensive and objective studying, generalizing and analysing economic and social processes and development trends occurring in the country.

In the Republic of Uzbekistan the functions on developing statistical and accounting indices lies on the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan (http://www.stat.uz/). The Committee carries out its activity on keeping interrelations with central and local authorities, civil based organizations and units. The State Committee subordinates the Center for retraining and statistical research.
