Civil Society in Central Asia

Since gaining the independence by the Central Asian countries the new term -"Civil Society" - has became an important element while describing social and political processes in these countries. The wide meaning of the "Civil Society" covers the active and balanced interaction of the government, business, all nongovernmental, non-for-profit organizations (NGO), public associations and individuals for ensuring the welfare of society and its each member. The narrow meaning of the "Civil Society" term implies on the limited by territory (region, country, or any of its part) system, represented by NGOs and other public associations and establishments of various statuses, which activities focus on facilitating social development and ensuring due protection of the society members.

In spite of the fact that the "Civil Society" term is in use started from the recent years in Central Asia, the principles and activity of the system that we now call as "Civil Society" were presented in the region for ages. It included people's initiatives and various communal organizations, people's assembly and a dialogue with authorities that reckon with an interest of people. To date the issues of Civil Society development get more supporters in the region and at wider extent implemented in practice.
