I hear Gen. John Abizaid who heads Central Command in Afghanistan, has recently visited Dushanbe. Although officials didn't discuss the nature of his consultations other than to say he addressed "broad security issues of regional consequence", it has been known from resources close to Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Pentagon plans to create "Tripartite Alliance" for continuing struggle against terrorism in Central Asian region under the aegis of the USA, of course. According to US prospects such countries as Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzia are to join this unity. In this case Americans try to make time, taking into account their present-day complex relations with Uzbekistan as well as Kyrgyzstan's recoil, connected with US presence on Kyrgyz territory.
I think nobody doubt that Afghanistan's President Karzai has already accepted US proposals. As to the Kyrghyz they may enter into this "unity" even in consideration of 10 restored "irokezes" and in exchange for US credit in 200 million US dollars.
The situation is reversed if speaking about Tajiks. Many analysts gear US last motion to the previous one (I mean US proposal concerning to renting Aine airfield and crediting a sum of 200 million US dollars to Tajikistan). But quite a few analysts tie the visit of US General to recent statement of a certain American rights advocate who has told about possible involvement of Tajikistan's leadership in "deportation" of well-known militant of Uzbek extraction G. Hamangansky (in 90s he took an active part in seizing of hostages and massacres in the south of Kyrgyzia and in Fergana Valley) from Tajikistan to Taliban's Afghanistan in 2000.
I wonder how Rakhmonov will take this situation…
