It is well khown that MDGs promote poverty reduction and human development as the key to sustaining social and economic progress.
The goals aim to cut by half the proportion of people living in poverty by 2015.
Porevty in CA region rose faster. The socio-economic transformation substantially affected the structure of economy. It also hit living standards.
It is estimated that the number of people in Kazakhstan living on less than 2$ a day is 24%, in Kyrgyz Republic - 50%, and in Tajikistan - about 80%. I do not have any data on poverty in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
In view of this can anybody provide me with statistics on this countries?
And how are the Central Asian states going for meeting the MDGs?

Dear Phillip Richardson,
I khow that the proportion of people whose income is less than 1 USD Dollar a day should be halve till 2015.
I think that reducting poverty in Central Asia region is important.
I do not know what happened in Turkmenistan, but in Uzbekistan policy makers do not use "poor" or "poverty", we use "indigent people" or "indigent population".
I do not have any data from the Government of Uzbekistan on poverty, but by the World Bank's classification Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are Low income countries.

Frankly,
I do not believe in Millenium development goals. Yes, the idea is great, name is fancy-shmancy, but.......accomplishment of MDG is impossible not only in CAR region but elsewhere.
