1. "Building knowledge network for facilitating integration in Central Asia". The fourth meeting of the Central Asian Gateway project’s Steering Committee
is due to take place in Dushanbe at the end of November, 2006. The meeting
will focus on the issues of the Central Asian Gateway (CAG) project
development and will aim to bring together interested stakeholders to
allow establishing new partnerships, generating and accumulating new
ideas that will help practitioners in facilitating sustainable
development and integration in Central Asia.

1. November 1, 2006. Kazakh PM discussed new areas
of economic co-operation with German FM. Danial Akhmetov, Prime
Minister of Kazakhstan, and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Foreign Minister of

2. November 1, 2006. Tajik-Russian economic
commission to meet in Moscow in December 2006. The ninth
session of the Tajik-Russian commission for economic and trade
cooperation will be held in Moscow in December 2006. An agreement
on holding the meeting in December was reached at a meeting of
co-chairmen of the commission – Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and
Russian Emergencies Minister Sergey Shoigu – that was held in Moscow. In
the course of the talks the two discussed the session’s agenda and other
issues related to bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and

3. November 2, 2006. St. Petersburg authorities are
interested in cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. St. Petersburg
authorities are ready to cooperate closely and interact with Kyrgyzstan
in many branches of economy. Vice governor of St. Petersburg A
Vahmistrov told in Bishkek during the meeting with representatives of
the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan. During the
meeting representatives of the St. Petersburg delegation expressed
interest in joint work on delivery of ecologically natural products,
production of polymers and opening of the Kyrgyz Trade House in St.
Petersburg. The guests also expressed readiness to share with their
experience and attract investments in the system of water channels and

4. November 3, 2006. Parliament of Kazakhstan
ratifies protocol to agreement on visa-free travels in EurAsEC.
Deputies of the senate approved a law "On ratification of a Protocol to
the Agreement between the Governments of Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan on Visa-Free Travels of Citizens as
of 30 November, 2000" at a plenary meeting of the chamber. The Protocol
is an integral part of the Agreement between the Governments of Belarus,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan on Visa-Free Travels of
Citizens ratified on 6 December, 2001. More information...

5. November 8, 2006. Kazakhstan, Armenia signed
bilateral agreements. A number of bilateral agreements were signed
as a result of the closed and open talks that took place in Astana
between Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, and Robert

6. November 9, 2006. Russian first deputy minister
of foreign affairs points to effectiveness of Russian-Turkmen
relations. Speaking at the official reception hosted by the Embassy
of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation on the occasion of the 15th
anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan, Russian first deputy
minister of foreign affairs Andrei Denisov said Moscow and Ashgabat
maintain effective bilateral relations in accordance with the interests

7. SCO member nations review forms of
cooperation. The second forum of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization (SСO) on defense and security issues is taking place at the
Academy of China’s National Army in Beijing. This ten-day forum formally
titled “Peaceful Development of China and the SCO” has brought together
thirty high-ranking officers from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as India, Iran, Mongolia and
Pakistan. Issues related to exchange of information and strengthening of
the confidence-building measures between the member nations and observer
countries of the Organization are the main focus of the meeting. The

8. November 10, 2006. Kazakhstan, Jordan create
joint economic commission. According to Maroof al-Bakheet, the Prime Minister of Jordan, Kazakhstan and Jordan will create a joint
economic commission. "We
have agreed on creation of a joint economic commission, whose first
meeting will take place before the visit of the

9. November 13, 2006. EU-Uzbekistan Cooperation
Council meeting was held in Brussels. The Cooperation Council discussed a number
of issues of current importance to both parties, including the events at
Andijan, democratisation, human rights, regional cooperation in Central
Asia, justice and home affairs (JHA) issues and economic development,
and emphasized the need for continuous reinforced reform process in

processing plant produced a first output of liquefied gas and hydrocarbon condensate. The plant is located on the country's biggest gas condensate

2. November 1, 2006. Assets of Uzbek banks are
boosted by 26,5%. Total assets of Uzbek commercial banks are boosted to
7,12 trillion sums that comprises increase in 26,5 % in
January-September 2006. The total capital of banks of the republic for
the aforementioned period is increased by 10,4% and is composed of
1,028t sums on October 1 of the current year. More information...

3. November 7, 2006. Seminar on investment potential
of Uzbekistan was held in Tokyo. The aforementioned seminar was
organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan and the
Japanese Ministry of economy, trade and industry. The forum that was
held in Tokyo gathered fourty Japanese representatives of business and

4. November 10, 2006. Switzerland to allocate US$1m
to Kyrgyzstan. An agreement between the government of Switzerland
and Kyrgyzstan on continuing project on technical cooperation “Trade
Promotion in Kyrgyzstan” was signed officially in Bishkek. According to
the document, the project comes into second phase of implementation,
which will last till 2008 with a total budget of 1 million US dollars.

1. November 2, 2006. Activity of informatization and
communications-related institutions for the period of six month was
assessed. Uzbek agency of communications and informatization held a
board session, which was dedicated to the discussion of the activity of

2. November 8, 2006. UNDP supports Tashkent
University of Information Technologies through training of lecturers in
the field of ICT. UNDP within the framework of the project “Assistance
for the Uzbekistan's government in defining and introduction of ICT
policy for development of Uzbekistan” along with CISCO Regional
Academy is going to conduct joint trainings “New Technologies: Security
And Unified Communications” during November 7-23, 2006 for teaching
staff of Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) to

3. November 10, 2006. Turkmenistan completes fibre
optic communication line between Ashgabat and Dashoguz. Turkmenistan
has successfully completed construction of the Trans-Karakum fibre optic
communication line between Ashgabat and Dashoguz. The new 574 km
communication line runs across the greatest desert of the continent -
Central Karakum Desert - and connects the capital of Turkmenistan
with the county's northern province via the high-speed digital corridor.

- HEALTH
1. November 2, 2006. Japan allocates grants of
USD 343,955 to Uzbek grass-root projects. The ceremony of signing of
grant-contracts took place at the International Business Centre in
Tashkent. Japan government allocated grants of USD 343,955 to four Uzbek
schools and a children hospital within the aid programme of Japan
to grass-root social projects. Grants have been issued to the Tashkent
City Children's Hospital and four schools of Syrdarya and Surkhandarya

2. November 3, 2006. Central Asian healthcare
experts met in Tashkent. The 10th Mother and Child Health Protection
Forum of Central Asian republics and Kazakhstan was held in Tashkent.
Participants of the forum discussed the results of the healthcare
reform, as well as their influence on maternal and child well being
during the last ten years in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, events to

1. November 3, 2006. ADB to provide USD 1 million to
Eskhata Bank to support small and medium-sized enterprises. Eskhata Bank
in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province, has established
cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Representatives from
Eskhata Bank and ADB met in Khujand in mid-October to discuss the
possibility of the development of
joint loan activities to support small and medium-sized

- POVERTY REDUCTION
1. November 10, 2006. ADB supports poverty
reduction results monitoring. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) grants
package of USD 900,000 to boost the Tajikistan Government's
results management for its poverty reduction strategy. The package
comprises a grant of $500,000 from the Government of Sweden and $400,000

ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Sustainable use of energy for villages to be
discussed. A three-day conference on sustainable use of energy
resources in the mountain areas of Central Asia will be opened in Dushanbe on
November 22. The initiators of the forum are the Alliance of Central
Asian Mountain Communities (AGOCA) and the Central Asian Mountain
Partnership (CAMP) that function in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The forum will be focused on the issues of strengthening the network of organizations
working towards sustainable development in Central Asian mountain regions and

2. Delegation of business circles of Indonesia to
visit Tashkent. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Uzbekistan
is organizing the visit of a delegation of the representatives of
business circles of Indonesia. The visit is scheduled for 23-27
November. The aim of the visit is to establish cooperation with the
leading Indonesian companies specialized in the production of furniture,
shoes, bags and accessories, as well as those operating in car

organized in Tashkent. "LEX MARK ADVOKAT" Law firm is inviting

4. November 30, 2006. Small grants competition of
the Fund for supporting Uzbekistan's NGOs. The competition supports non-governmental noncommercial organizations
(NGOs), which carry out the activity, aimed at enhancing the
social-political activity of citizens to resolve most important
humanitarian, social-economic and other publicly significant tasks, and
developing institutions of civic community. The maximum amount of a grant
